Yep, I'm using Chrome. And holy Jesus, it worked! For so long I've been annoyed by PhotoBucket and now it works like a charm. Thank you so, so much!

Yea, I know. I still don't know what PB was thinking when they just wanted $399 from people to see some photos... it's outrageous.

Pistons and new main jets have arrived so I can start putting the motor back together. New carbs are shorter that the old Mikuni's so I need to modify the air box. This was supposed to be a nice easy change over. Yeh right.

Ronnie
2 smokes require a 7lb pre run stabalilisation , saturation period
so the co- efficient between the linea expansion of the rotating bits and the non smoke producing bits
can be pre stressed to help with the eardrum destroying noise outcome
Dave has it sussd to perfection
both in terms of noise and smoke

Good to see ya have been paying attention Harky, ya closet smoker.

Ronnie, the amount of pressure isnt that important as long as its in the 5 - 10 ish PSI range. Testing the engine for any leaks. It should hold pressure for round 5 minutes. Air leaks = BAD. If you were to do it properly you would also test with a vacuum but I dont have a vacuum pump or gauge.

yeah I was thinking that Pete, but also thought that youse may have been working towards a certin crankcase pressure before the transfer ports opened :)

Hi Ron

The old RGV engines are pretty limited as far as what you can do to them ..... about 70 - 75 rwhp (Dyno dependent) is about it .... after all it's a mass produced Road Bike Engine and nothing like a Purpose Built Race Engine that you have in a TZ Yamaha or a RS Honda .....

Some interesting Information has been released since the Smokers were phased out of GP Racing ....

A couple of the Mechanics from the Works Aprilia 2 Stroke Team were able to share what they found based on many many years of R&D ...

and a lot of the last years of the 2 Stroke development they did found the opposite to the older thinking as far as modifications ...

They found, Big Volume and Liquid Cooling in the Crankcase(rather than small crankcase volume), rounded Transfer Port Dividers at the base of the cylinder (rather than thin knife edge), the shape of the Transfer Port Ducts (rather than the size of the port openings), not too much exhaust port timing, longer con rod lengths, all led to a reliable and rideable 54hp out of a 125cc GP Bike in the last years.

A lot of it is not really applicable to the RGV, but it helps to know what areas to change and what areas can be left alone ......

On ward and upward

Pete :)

Got the bike fired up yesterday. A bit more to do mainly to the cooling system and it will be ready for another try. Ive fitted the old pipes that are a known good thing, after a good run with them on ill fit the new pipes that are worth another 6 hp on paper so we shall see what result that gives.

Bike is packed in the van ready for an after work departure today. We will get a couple of hours down the road tonight and have a sleep then an easy drive in to the lake tomorrow.
Bike is running well on the bench so hoping for a successful speed week. Ill report back after we return in a week and a half.
