calming?
Don, you certainly picked the right time to move to NZ, Brisbane is getting ridiculous. Some people might have thought I was exaggerating because I'd had a bad day but no, that's what it's like up here now. The place is full and just can't cope and stupid Captain Bligh is now offering some hare-brained scheme to get people to move out of South East Queensland. Paul, you'll be pleased to know I'm feeling better today, but I don't expect it to last long after I get in the car!
Don, maybe you should try to get Tram Road reused for its "proper purpose". As NZ is enlightened enough to have a capped public liability scheme it wouldn't be anywhere near as hard (read impossible) to get it off the ground as it was here. By the way, that Skyhawk tank didn't sell (no bids at all) so you could still get it and probably for far less than his $2k asking price.
Cheers
Dave

ya don't want that thing for a lakester anyway, too narrow, it's a supersonic tank ( pointy)and the wrong shape for the aero you want on a car........just happen to know where there might be a Canberra tank for sale for about the same price and ya don't have to freight it from InZidlend either , oh yeah they look like this....
na , not the pushie, the white thing in the background...and you have to find a Sabre tank to get the bit sitting on top.....
...few understand what I'm trying to do , but they vastly outnumber those who understand why..

hijacked
We should put this somewhere else, Ross's thread is getting really out of shape. Speaking of supersonic belly tanks that Skyhawk one sure looked nice but at 5.8m was much longer than it needed to be. Mind you, the 65cm diameter it was about right for width for a skinny bloke. Still wouldn't buy it, as we've discussed elsewhere, it is probably easier to build one from scratch. Mind you if someone had a spare Canberra tip tank with parts of a Sabre drop tank just lying around....
Come on somebody, buy it but don't run it in E class Leave the Skyhawk for Don.
Cheers
Dave

OVER THE COUNTER PARTS !
As most of the guys & girls that have built or are building LSR vehicals know there is virtualy no such thing as OTC PARTS . this wekend i will endeavour to make just the gear shift. It is just about lunch time saturday & these 2 pictures show were its at.
THE brake pedal is already made , the picture on the right shows the peices that will go into making the gear pedal.
Oh yea GRANNY IS ROCKET FUEL .

24 HOURS LATER.
1 more bit made & only 999 to go as I havn't done any drawings for the little peices . mistakes will be made
the first effort had the bend at the wrong end
Just got to whip up 15 feet of shafts & linkages so it will actually connect to the gear box.

This is currently what we have with the covers off. will attempt to get chute tubes into correct position so the anchor points can be made & attached & the brackets made & fitted for solenoid to work the auto release system. The clock is ticking

FIRE UP
Progress had to stop until the fire suppression system finally found its way to salt monster.
Feeding this monster gets somewhat difficult.
First one must decide which treasured artical is next on the feed list.
This time it was a 750cc Suzuki waterbottle speedway sicecar(classic)
Ebay happily cooked it .paypal in their wisdom froze it . & then motorsport connections eagerly ate it.
Monster appeased for 5 minutes
QUESTIONS : Bob , Gary & all others whom have gone down this path
MOUNTING : Pictures 2 & 3 show were the bottles are going to need to sit, as this keeps a weight balance & is out of the way of most things, the wheel will be mostly coverd with an air box x guard ,should things like tyres start flying apart the neck of the bottles will be shrouded. have I missed anything ?
QUESTION 2 : Am looking to flush mount the fire push controls into the panels ,as shown in picture 4 but am not sure of the power needed to operate them
Do you need to bang them with some force to break the seal, or can you break the seal by pulling it with 2 fingers ?
cheers Ross

G'day Ross,
Don't shroud the wheels too closely below the axle line. I spent quite some time helping the Adelaide streamliner boys get their inner guards off last year as they were packed solid with salt.
The wheel opening in their pan was smaller than the tyre O.D. and the salt hung onto the removable aluminium wheel arches despite using large screwdrivers as levers and thumping the aluminium.
Cheers,
Rob

FIRE 2
Fire system is basicly mounted for engine compartment with lower inner guard also made.
Room is at somewhat of a premium as there is still the air box to sit on top of that.
Having bottle size issues with system in riders compartment ,but will find a way through it.
