Looking good Ross.

Intake plenums almost done too by the look?

Yep... coming along slowly.
The intake plenums have been siting in a half finished state for a while, and as like the wiring and some other parts that
are left sitting there half finished, It's so when I'm about building another part in it's vicinity ,I dont go putting parts in the
road or interfare with something else easily forgotten about ...Ease of maitenence was learnt from speedway..sometimes only 4 minutes
between races, and a lot had to be done..

IN OTHER NEWS..
Those of us that are close to the bone. have been in a partcial debate with the SCTA rule makers over the proposed change of motorcycle
streamliner roll cages from 1"1/4 ... to.... 1"5/8 as so to align with car roll cages.
The reason for this being SPEED X WEIGHT X MASS.. mathamaticly.. weight and mass are the same thing , so the equation itself has me stumped :?
Mike Ackitiff and Sam Wheeler both voiced concern over the un needed change with some pretty powerful arguments . Sam even showed up to the meeting with an engineere to discuss the impracticalities of the rule ( FELL ON DEAF EARS ).
This ruling effectively retires all the current streamliners to run at SCTA events and turns the 10 that are currently being built throughout the world to rubbish..
This is somewhat annoying ,but not the end of the world..
The SCTA runs 3 events
...SPEEDWEEK .. allready overcommited ...
... El MIRAGE..... to dangerous , has claimed to many motorcycle streamliners allready.
... WORLD FINALS.... As Greg Watters pointed out to me .. a good test run before the SHOOTOUT . ( pity..)

That leaves us with...
BUB .. all good .. rules are... AMA .... FIM...
MIKE COOK SHOOTOUT.... all good...
WORLD OF SPEED..... not sure of their rules..

AUSTRALIA ..
DLRA .. Lake Gairdner... SCTA rules.... ISSUE...
This has now become an issue that needs to be resloved when it reaches Australia .. But who needs it..

Thank you Jon for the constant stream of information while this was developing,
and also to Grumm for also trying to put a stop to it..

I would be interested to read constructive points of veiw from both sides of the fence on this issue.

Ross..

World of Speed is run by the USFRA on SCTA rules ,, it will be a issue for them also, :x

My first question would be who proposed the rule change and why?

Sucks for anyone with an existing, or building a new bike 'liner for sure.

Van Buttler proposed the rule change.
With the singular reason ..... Speed x weight x mass......

Closer to the correct equation would be... Speed x mass x area..... then introduced into a sliding scale.
As Sam Wheeler pointed out .. his bike is 1000 pounds the avergage car is 6000 pounds and the phoneix truck is 28000 pounds

The greatest distance of roll cage structure on the BOSS STREAMLINER between any intersection point is 22inches (had to get in and out somehow :D )
yet a car or a truck can go 6 feet across its top screen bar before intersection..

IN my opinion motorcylce streamliners already have the strongest and most advanced cages in LSR due mainly to confinement and the needed shape.

Where there is a will there is a way... all is not lost ..

I feel for you Ross and anyone else with a build in the works for that matter.

I posted in Jon's build diary over on landracing.com, does this portion of the rule not exempt existing 'liners? If so you'd have to hope that it could be extended to anyone at an advanced stage of their build too.

Side Effects:
None, (Will not affect any streamliner or side car streamliner that is currently running in the SCTA or BNI).

"CURRENTLY "
Is the operative word...
Currently " I think " there is no motorcycle streamliners running at SCTA events (1 sidecar maybe )
Puts us all, In sort of the same basket.

The issue as I see it... Is keeping some sort of uniform amongst the rule books.. was 4
...DLRA.... SCTA.... AMA.... FIM...
There are differances between the books , but nothing that couldn't be worked around..
Now that the.. DLRA.. have addopted the SCTA book, that cuts us down to 3 ( you would think that would simplify things )

Here in Australia , we will work around the rule, let it be by build submissions or a rule deviation from the SCTA..

On A good note : Matt Schuss proposed a rule change to allow streamliners, 3 engines..
Yep:: Let back in the door........... then kicked out the window

ALL GOOD..
Ross..

With the Rule change I don't get it either Ross.

I posted this on LandRacing hoping to get enlightened.

"The current tubing sizes on some streamliners and side car streamliners (Speed X weight X Mass) is inadequate."

Is that 300mph x 1 ton x 1 ton = 300 what? or Metric 480kph x 1tonne x 1tonne = 480 what?

"Definition of Mass

A measure of how much matter is in an object.

A gold bar is quite small but has a mass of 1 kilogram (about 2.2 pounds), so it contains a lot of matter.

Mass is commonly measured by how much something weighs. But weight can change depending on where you are (such as on the moon) while the mass stays the same.

It is measured in grams, kilograms and, tonnes (Metric) or ounces and pounds (US units)"

Can someone explain this SxWxM= formula to me?

Don't know Pete.

Maybe it's meant to be Acceleration times mass squared.
That works even more in a bikes favour as it is the square of the weight so something that is twice as heavy has and end figure of 8 times at the same speed.

A more appropriate formula if one was to be used would be mass times acceleration squared.
E=MC^2.

My personal opinion Ross,

I have built and worn out lots of bikes in my time.

I race cars on the salt and doubt if i would ever half the balls to do the same on a bike.
I am happy to build cars and plan and race cars that have a potential to run mid 200mph.

The guys with the balls to run fast on bikes on the salt should be the ones that agree on their rules.
From my spectacting standpoint I have noticed that some parts of to the SCTA rules for bikes don't really paint a compelling picture to follow them like Lemmings.
The DLRA (SCTA) rulebook is split clearly between bikes and cars there is no reason the bike guys could not chose a different one.
I don't know if this helps but my narrow view from the other side.

And for those that don't quite get the difference between "mass" and "weight", here's a little video that might help:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1whMAIGN ... detailpage

Now, if I could only find something similar to explain Van Buttler's reasoning

Cheers, Pete

Science songs. I love the internet

Ross, i would just send Van Butler some pictures and a link to the build diary

And it looks like we will have to setup a streamliner deviation committee for the DLRA
I was thinking Ross Brown, Greg Watters and Jon Bennet. As they seem to know the most about motorcycle streamliners
