awesome video clip mate.
PLEASE dont get rid of that surging idle..........absolutely horn bag sound.....I love it.

Dont worry about the speed as long as it sounds good.
cheers Johno
You just want to go faster than me Johno :D :D :D :D :D

I'm getting there, the hunt will still be there cold, but , hopefully, gone when warm, it reminds me of a certain rotary a few years back , the noise wears a bit thin after a week

Most times, shyte happens for a reason !

After the 'orrible mix of fuels the engine has drunk over the last week or so, the EGT on #2 suggested the plug is not firing like it should, so a dreaded spark plug replacement is needed.
Not the easiest job I might add, after 5 hrs yesterday, I managed to change and torque #2, and got #3 in, but there is so little room to get at it, torquing requires the thermostat housing to be shifted, 4 hrs later (today) I finally removed it's securing bolt (with the help of Mrs "T'fer's" streamlined mits),after removing the battery, battery box, most of the electrical fuse holder and circuit breakers, the boost gauge hose, radiator overflow etc, allowing me to torque the plug.
Now I can get the 5/16 drive socket extension and plug spanner out of the plug recess too :x
After relocating the thermostat housing, plug swaps should be a piece of cake

I found a good reason why this work was needed,,,,,,,,,A hose clamp sits on a radiator hose 50mm from where it'll do anything constructive, it's hidden from view until the above work is done,,
That would have been fun when the hose blew off at the Lake eh !

Now to get it back together before tonight's stint of night shifts start, hopefully, my jets will arrive about the time my sleep pattern returns to normal next turds day.

Hey Tiny
Can you make plugs easier to access by moving some of the moveable stuff??
Changing plugs at the lake will be a bugger of a job at the lake.

Remember the piston--- I thought I had lost it.I didn't wan't to say anything. I couldn't find it at my mates place in Utah.
Turns out I did the right thing and packed it safely with my own parts and they turned up today.
So now you have a complete set of pistons spare.
I'll bring it with me

No problems Bones, thanks for that mate
Plug swaps should be down to 1/2 hr (cold) , #3 is the worst, hides behind the cam drive, needing a short extension, which has to be separated from the plug socket before the socket can be removed, there is just no more room to make it any easier.(remember the plug sits 75mm below the cover, and the socket is 50mm)
Feeling rather professional here, never having bothered to torque a spark plug before, rather I'd have my pinkie pop out straight when it "felt" tight.
Like when tensioning the Harley head bolts, it's a rather complicated job involving a 9/16 socket, the tension wrench 1/2" drive (that makes it "ok") , a bent ringie shoved into a 6" over kwaka mach 111 500 fork leg :?: :?: :?: , standing over the bike (without touching it for assistance) and pulling towards my guts with my left arm, while the right arm rests on my right thigh, till the left arm wobbles from exertion,,and my pinkie pops out @ 85 ft lbs :D :D :D
Never blown a head gasket in 40 years doing it that way

Hey Tiny
I might need another project.
Been thinking about making a bit of space in the shed
With a little space I think an H1 dragbike would look good.
I have a few cb900f hondas --- could a deal be made??

You could probably do with some more.
I can even supply you with the receipt of the one I bought in 1980.

I'm beginning to NOT enjoy setting up alcohol carbs which are drawn on by a supercharger.
I had another blast today with the GoPro data logger on, unfortunately, my calibrated right wrist is almost out of shot but I'm pretty sure this shot is at full noise

Image

Two things pop out and demand attention,,,LEAN !, and 15 LB boost
The extra 5 lb of boost can be blamed on the new cams (no overlap) but I dunno if the donk can handle that much boost ?

The ride started out with 4.5 A/F @ 1/4, up to 1/2 throttle, with no surprises, after I turned around for the return run, the idle had lifted to 5,ooo rpm, and the A/f was off the dial lean (the gauge stops at 8.9/1), once again, I added R30 to the fuel, and once again it clogged the pilot jet (easily cleared by blowing thru the jet, but after it's removed
My number drill set and micrometer set arrived today, so I have all I need, except time
The bleed drain ballcock had also mysteriously opened itself :?: which didn't help the leaness either
Rain is forecast for tomorrow :( , but I'll have some fresh unoiled Methanol, ready for another test, with the camera set up so I'll see everything I need to see

Tiny
I run the tz350 and the rs125 on Castrol 747 - 25:1 MIX and have never had a problem with clogging jets.
Yamaha recommend 16:1 for r30.
How much are you putting in?
Is it maybe a fuel starvation problem-- the idle jet will not be contributing much at large throttle openings

Adding 3ml to 3 ltrs Bones (not any more, dry will hafta do)
This thing is re writing the book.
I've got (hopefully) more than enough fuel supply, 3.5 psi 70 gallon/hr pump, Holley bowl+ Mikuni bowl without floats
Next run will be just a clean version of todays, although Iv'e drilled a needle jet, and have 660, 680 & 710 mains in the "maybe" box, depending what happens?
Maybe, just maybe the needle jet is maxed out now, I'm still under the size I figured I'll need, 1 step at a time,,,,,
