Re: APS/G 250
A little bit of plasticene will work fine in the crack and anywhere the gel coat has pulled. Stops the resin getting in and a hell of a time getting your "job" out of the mould.

Re: APS/G 250
Yeah Rob that's what I thought it and it is really a trick of the light.
I just washed the PVA off and they're raised bits of Gel Coat from a few cracks that were in the plug. I thought I'd filled them in enough, it looks like I didn't.
I was told that whatever is on the plug will show on the mould, I just found out that it sure does.
So I got to give a light sand off to bring it back to the surface.
I used some of that plasticene in the mounting holes and it worked great.
I'll have another look in the morning, but I am really surprised at how well it came out, the wax and PVA worked just like they should have.
Not there yet but I think I might actually end up with an Ok Mudguard.
Pete

Re: APS/G 250
Well I laid it up on Monday and have just Released it from it's confines, it came straight out
It's plenty good enough for what I am doing. It weighs 1.2kg and the Plug was 1.5kg. I reinforced the area where the larger front joins the Fork indents.
It is mounted on the front and the rear of the Forks. So it is evenly supported.
Find out if it mounts up without too much flex tomorrow.
So far so good.
Pete

Re: APS/G 250
Had a few clearance problems that where not there with the plug, the Glass sides just rubbed on the Upper Forks. The Plug had Ally on the sides and had clearance but it was tight. I trimmed it up and will do a little tidy up, but it will do as a test unit. If it works, I'll make a small mod to the mold at a later date.
Once it was mounted it has virtually no flex
Well a quick paint and that's it, the Bike is ready, so on to the Tech Day then!!!!!!!
See you all in Feb

Re: APS/G 250
I don't know if it will be of any help but...despite the generally held belief to the contrary, it is possible to reshape 'glass once it has set up by the judicious use of heat.
For heat you'll need an oxy set with a cutting tip. Get the job as hot as you can without actually burning the resin or gel coat, pull/push it to where you want it to be then hold it there until it cools. Don't get overly close with the oxy tip, hold it off a good foot or so and keep it moving where you want to glass to give.
Hopefully that may save you some unecessary work.
Cheers,
Rob

Re: APS/G 250
hay Pete, those air tubes, do thay hook into your fairing and run through to the very frount of the bike somewhere ?, or do thay pickup air right there, ,, reason i ask is that salt/wet salt will be blown/drain off from inside/around your guard and looks to me as though it could get sucked in them pickups,(dirty enviorment), ,,
lookin good mate,

Re: APS/G 250
Rob It is just a slight tweek needed, I need to have better look at it when I do the next Guard, after Feb.
Ron it picks up the air there.
I looked at the Salt Spray pattern that I had in 2010 it was not in that area. It did not seem to reach that height and that far out.
The rear of the Mudguard is the same as the original. So I went with this set up.
I also thought that the intake would not be as effective if they are extended as far as the edge of the Fairing.
I'll have a look tomorrow.

You caught me out again.
I told you not to say anything about the V8 2stroke Uni Cycle Streamliner I was planning for 2014.

Re: APS/G 250
There've been a few outboard powerheads used for LSR over the years.
If you search Landracing.com for the Ballpoint Banana you'll see at least one of them. It ran I and K streamliner classes with Merc outboard donks though not successfully based on comments on it by some that were there.
Found this one I'd saved from there, obviously running the K donk.
Cheers,
Rob

Re: APS/G 250
Wow, now that's something else.
I see the Exhausts don't look like Expansion Chambers but Megaphones.
2 stroke Snowmobile engines are out there as well, Naturally Aspirated 1800cc 350hp@8500rpm, imagine ducking through the Pines with something like that under you.
I do admit that I looked at the Snowy 600cc triples, but too much drama involved, maybe this!!! I think this has the Expansion Chamber thing covered,
Let me clarify my statement I have finished until after Feb, then who knows, I'll have a bigger shed to send smoke signals from.
