Obviously you won't have the capability to do it in carbon fibre and aluminium honeycomb but you can see how well the driver is protected. You could always add panels to your Kirkey seat.

Yea cool Dave, I went on a massive web search today for leg restraints and have come away with a few ideas now. Next time I sit in the seat ill have fresh eyes.

Two things, anything loose inside the cabin and heading at your head. Remember the 40g rule. Your iPhone mount or whatever needs to withstand a 40g hit, 40 TIMES the force of gravity or that could be how hard it hits you. A 200g iphone will = 8kg

2nd, your fire bottle needs to mount longitudinally, top to the rear of the vehicle. 2 reasons. First under hard braking it will still work, its very unlikely the car will end up resting nose down. The firebottle pickup tube is on the bottom of the bottle, invert it and it won't work.

I will post gear ratio charts so you can just use your tacho if you prefer. You will need them anyway.

Sorry when I say '40g rule' its not a DLRA rule. Its one I carry over from other motorsport. I build all my race cars with this in mind but its much more applicable to us.

Yea ok Chris, good pickup. I honestly just read the manufacturer instructions and didn't give it much thought. East West is what they recommend as best option. But it won't work if we are lying on our side if i'm understanding the pickup arrangement right. And as you say the chance of being on our nose is less likely than side. Pointing to the back is how we have them in the funny car too.

Yep, yet another unwritten rule that we are encouraging at scruit. It will become a rule one day but easier for you to do it first time. Remember centre of gravity, low as possible with everything you add. In a spin its less likely to roll if your weight is low.

Got our new front wheels today. W rated. looks a bit lofty right now, but we have some of Rod Hadfield's drop spindles to go in yet, some new nolathane bushes and our lowering springs. Also there is no motor in the car right now. Id like to think in 2018 well be looking around to purchase some proper land speed wheels, but I expect well learn a lot with these ones next year. Remembering we have 3 rookie drivers for this car so we've got a couple days of licensing and what not i imagine.

Once again, John has included a beer to the picture for my pleasure. 100% dry where i work.

Bottle mount is now the otherway. We'll also look at adding some stops to prevent the bottle sliding backwards or forwards even though our heavy duty clamp should do fine.

Gus, with three new drivers and a new car Track 2 (aka the short course) is where you will be and it normally runs out of competitors on Thursday. If you are still running and can use the track I will keep it open as long as you and any other competitors want. With significantly reduced competitor numbers late in the week there is virtually no waiting time on my track. All racing finishes at noon on Friday.

They will be Paul, I have the keys to the car. This year we ran out of Track 2 competitors around lunchtime Thursday. I would like more people able to run Late Thursday and into Friday, I guess we'll just have to see who turns up. We really should have vehicles with multiple drivers running into Friday so that they get their money's worth.

OK so a bit more progress on the terraplane. Spent a day welding on the roof chop still another full day of welding to go on that yet.

Few more bars in the cage, another 6 or 8 to go yet plus all the gussets, Its a damn big job.

Started nutting out the window net, it surprised us the 600mm X 600mm hole we have left to get in and out of the car is actually not to bad too get in and out of. The suicide door helps a little and the quick release steering wheel, so where happy with that.

Motor is progressing, cylinder heads are ready for assembly, new cam has arrived, just waiting on the new forged crank and then the last of the block machining can be done and the grout fill.

Trans tunnel is done as well.

still a big list of jobs to go and only 5 months left now.

Ok, so we got a another dozen tubes into the cage, gusseting still outstanding and some sort of arrangement for the switches n stuff to mount in the middle. Clutch and brake pedals sorted and almost mounted including master cylinders.

Moving on from the cage for a bit. We've mounted the new 36 grille from Jeff and massaged it a touch. We still plan to make a fiberglass copy of this one blocking off the airflow 100%. So because of that we've also installed a 50l water tank instead of a radiator up front. We hope this will do for our cooling, the motor is now 75% grout filled for a little extra block strength, we'll find out how it all works i guess when we fire it up for the first time.

At the tail end we have made some new boot hinges after installing the rear firewall and roughly got that in place. Some crazy heavy duty fuel tank and battery mounts are in progress. Always trying to get this thing heavier. Were thinking the boot latches may cause a potential hazard with the parachute since they look like little hooks and we may change them to a hood pin style of some sort.
