ok ,an update
just returned from our speed week , my naked busa scared the living daylights out of me , with a head shake
( poor weight distribution, the main reason ) , this project is “ intended “ to be about a stable in line platform
theory is good !
so
the CENTRE HUB STEERING has been completed , represents a serious outlay for me , in having someone else cad design , then cnc machine the whole thing , my satisfaction is in making , “ designing “ anything i run ( be that right or wrong )
the CHS is something i could have done ,but i feel it should be really the best possible bit of engineering i can produce , and in this case it is not by me
I may sell the plans , cad files , in an attempt to recover some of the costs
the axle @ 35 mm is seriously over the top , and weighs nearly a kilo , so weight forward is on track and no one can be concerned about its strength
the wheel is an R1/ R6
i now will start the front “ swing arm “ and use a hayabusa rear spring / shocker
be a while before i am back

The hub center stuff only showed up when I hit submit ... looking great. Not sure why that big hammer is in the background though! Any pics of the swingarm?

progress
but slow , stand by for photos
hold this thought Russell
you can use a big hammer a little bit , but you can’t use a little hammer a big bit ———- always have a big hammer @ the ready
there ANOTHER —— “ DAD “ statement
our friend enjoyed his day out with you
cold here down south

Swing arm and hoop are 1 1/2 “ x0.100” wall CDS
The frame is 65x35x2 , interesting and cheaper not having to be weight conscious
the “ lugs “ welded to the busa frame are for a cross brace that will go down to the chassis rails
next few steps will make some serious progress , and better vision

Hey Harky,

Looks great! Took a while for me to figure out where the lugs were mounted ... but finally recognized the Hayabusa fins down the back of the frame there. Swingarm looks really nice. Very keen to see how you mount the shock and how/if you'll brace back to the lower frame rails; when I chatted to Bones about my feet forward ideas he noted that with feet forward it might be difficult to negotiate the rule that you have to see all of the rider from the side (so even little bits sticking up, like handlebars, cant obscure bits of your leg from the side). One solution that sprung to mind was having a complete loop, along the bottom and then back over the top. Like an open roll cage. Not sure how that would go at tech inspection, but I'd say it would comply with the letter of the law. Would give something to mount the handlebars from in a more conventional position too (without something that would trap your legs). I could be over thinking things.

Cheers

Ok
there has been progress
Russell is moving forward , ( not sitting Forward ) so will show we are both progressing
my K.I.S.S idea has changed , the front suspension has become a time , thinking exercise, what you see is still , “ fluid “
a lot of what i have done has fixtures and mounting positions , that i can re - locate and change things , there are still lateral braces , to be done for shocker anchor points
the front spring shocker is a good example , spring rates and wheel travel will need to be reviewed when i know the front weight .

Yes, its safe to say you are outside K.I.S.S territory!

Loads more fabbing and welding progress than I've made, great stuff! Not simple stuff though ... will the steering get more or less complicated?

David's "Alligator" advice shows how steering above the knees can look safe (i.e. not looking like it wants to hook onto the rider if both were to part ways).

You feeling good about 2019?

Cheers!

steering will be cables ,
i can sit with my legs flat and fully extended , like it is .
i am longer in the wheel base than i first planned, so steering will be by my hips , might be something that i “ lift up “ once i am in place ——— still fluid ( my new term for everything)
no 2019 is not the plan , my 2018 effort needs to be continued.

Yeah, still the plan to be ready for 2019 ... loads to do, but isn't there always ...

Yeah! Bring some of those peppers along, plenty of salt out there to garnish! Will add a bit of class to the camp.

There's an image of this bike somewhere on page 3 of this thread : https://advrider.com/f/threads/2019-spe ... 584/page-3

Enjoy.
