the substance that resembles jelly is found within the fuel system,, methanol(water by product) contaminating the oil "will cause corrosian" within the oiling system if not maintained,,,
i cant stress this enough,, for vehicles that are gunna be sitting for any length of time, the methanol fuel system "must be "fully" purged" with a good petroliam product (i use premium gasoline with a dash of oil),, before flushing fuel system, drop engine oil and replace with "fresh" oil, by doing this you clean/purge/flush both systems at once,, also turn(or start, on gasoline with a set of really hot plugs, run (shitty) for a minute or two) your motor over every month or so, just to keep it lubricated,,

We were back at it today.

Radiator and support out, wiring all disconnected and tied out of the way.

Shift lever off, switch panel out, trans tunnel top off to access wiring and gearbox mount.

and after a little coaxing, out comes the engine and box.

After this we took the box off and put it onto the engine stand, Gaz is scoping out the exhaust ports here.

We pulled the heads but nothing enlightening resulted from that.

Here is the index finger swipe in the valley result... not so good and yet the cam lobes are as smooth as a babies bum.

I agree RE bearings. This was one short swipe for the camera, the valley has lots of it. Makes you wonder how much oil is thrown around for it to climb that high in the engine. The worry is, it's not all copper.

Chris,

No mate, I have too many to remember anything insignificant :/

Got an email from Gaz tonight,

It's bearings alright but not what I was thinking in the above post.

To quote Gaz, "Big ends scored, mains marked and piston skirts scuffed."

I should think the cam is a gonner and hope the cam tunnel in the block is serviceable. These came out but the cam is still in situ

Yep, those long nose pliers will #### up cam bearings quick stix.
Perhaps some one moved the cam bearing holes, or the lifters came out a bit far?

Bloody salts rusted those pliers :D

Gaz, option is you could go to roller cam bearings to save the block.

I can take some comfort in the fact I have provided the forum with an avenue to display some members' wit and clever repartee, but only very little.
I will delivering the load of scrap metal to Sam at Westend Performance tomorrow for his summation. I doubt he will be able to improve my current mood.
Something tells me I should be approaching the bank for a second mortgage.
Thank you all for your interest.

I'm glad we can comfort you Gaz,
Tools left in engines......Leads me to the story of Haemorrhoid. All the other mechanical shops in town gave him the name so we'll stick with that. It was a north central Victorian town. He was a self obsessed mechanical legend in his own lunch box. Would chew your ear at any opportunity and only ever waffled shit hence the name. Ever second job that left his workshop was a dismal failure but there was never any warranty so of course he burnt through plenty of suckers who would only visit once.
I was repairing one of his jobs, a massive oil leak under the back of the intake on a 302W . Slip the intake off and there in the middle of the valley was a brite and shinny 15/16 Sidchrome socket with his initials.
Still got the socket.
Sorry Gaz for going a little off track with your thread.
