Good point. Be interesting maths to see the required horsepower difference for the next 18mph.

Just watched the video footage on Slims site,, there was still more braking track when he took the exit,,

Interesting point, is that with these 450 cars is getting the things up to speed in the short distance before the end timers, you have to be north of 400 at the mile timing lights 8)

Yup, your gonna need horsepower to push you thru at those speeds, but also you have to get it to the ground to be up there to do it :)

So its a drag race. A long one. Amazing in car video. The acceleration past 300 was something.

They need almost twice the distance to pull up.
I was reading something the other day and this came up, I was surprised at the start, but when you think about what the brakes have to do , let alone the parachutes, it starts to make sense.
Keep the shiney side up........

Brakes above 200mph would most likely be toast I guess. Watch the G's as each chute comes out. Second chute was over 2g. Bigger brakes are limited by traction also I guess. The slipperier the car is the harder it is to stop also. The F100 I don't use brakes just release the throttle and physics takes hold.

Yes its a interesting one,, Chris I like your "valid" point about slippery vehicles being harder to slow down,,
Brakes would be toast anywhere north of two hundred,, your covering over 1/8 of a mile a second, so you pull the chute, drive into it while waiting for it to deploy, then apply a little brake, more brake as speed diminshes, as you state there is very little bodyaero resistance to help, in the meantime eating up a lot of braking real estate
