Plenty of pickups by the looks supporting us anti aerodynamisists.
And Norms there and the salt looks bloody good.
Go Norm

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Okay -- we're sitting in the living room shooting the breeze, but here's a bit of what went on:

First of all -- George Poteet in the Poteet/Main Speed Demon (nee Flatfire), with the new Duttweiler 300+ cubic inch V8, set on "stun", not "kill!", made about the third or fourth run of the day on the long course. It was just a shakedown run -- break in the engine a bit, you know -- 369 in the last mile, 379 out the back door. I guess they had the wastegate screwed down tight to the lowest amount of boost they could get -- so wait 'til they open 'er up!

I ran about noon on the special course -- which is the name for the second short course. The two are identical, although the special is a bit farther away from the pits. Anyway -- my noontime run was like driving on a Crisco-covered surface. LOTS of wheelspin and fishtailing, and a 194 1/2 in the 2 1/4 (slowed to 193.78 in the mile). So later on I went on the "real" short course -- not quite so much wheelspin, although I did notice that I kept the wheel lit up on and off most of the mile -- and ran a 194 1/4 in that mile (Hmm -- can you say "That's as fast as the aero will let it go with this traction."). Both times the rear wheel had wet-packed salt on it -- we could make salt balls. Todd made some tweaks and nancy will ride it first tomorrow.

Other stuff -- Connie Beavers put about a tenth on her A PS F 1350 record from last year and is in impound. Mike Mierle (did I spell that right, Mike?) is in impound with the Mitsubishi mini pickup. About 40 vehicles (I'm guessing) set for return runs in the morning.

A handful of spins, mostly on the long course. On car got a bit on its side but didn't go onto the driver's head -- I think that was the biggest "incident" of the day.

LOTS of runs. The three-course system is working again this year. We waited about forty-five minutes at midday at the special course, and about fifteen minutes at 4.30 on the short course. And this was on the first day of racing with well over 500 pre-entries. This three course system works!

Jon Amo and the Amo-Steele Streamliner made his first run in the car -- I think. They were in line in front of us when I made the second run - but the team waved us past. I think he made his run after I went down the course -- but I never heard a speed, so I can't give you any details there. Maybe he'll check in and tell us the story.

Cathy Butler is in impound at 163, I think it was, with the Butler's new 650-class bike. I hear that thing is super-sweet and built entirely of carbon fiber and unobtanium.

Oh, yeah -- it's SpeedWeek, boys and girls, and it's a good one. I'll tell you some more tomorrow. And yes, Congratulations to Fred for that 205+. Best wishes to him -- and everyone in impound today. Maybe we'll be in there again soon. Sure hope so...

"my noontime run was like driving on a Crisco-covered surface. LOTS of wheelspin and fishtailing" ,this is from the previous post and on speaking with our Terry Prince last week who is over there with his Vincent,he will tell you that that track is like a "Goat Track" compared to lLake Gairdner

From the SCTA website....

Officials of the Bonneville Nationals Inc. report that Barry Bryant, 46, from Anderson, California, died after competing at the speed trials on the Bonneville Salt Flats.

The accident occurred at 5:55 p.m. when his racing vehicle went out of control while traveling approximately 200 mph.

He was transported by ambulance off the race track to Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

Race Officials were informed that Bryant died before arriving at the Medical Center.

For those lads and lad`ets that are following the speedweek results on the SCTA site,,,, Richard Assen is running under his sponsers banner "A-Ward Racing",, he ran a high 242.514 yesterday. I would assume that wheelslip is a major problem, the difference in most off the given mile incrument speeds show this,,(not only for him, but all the 180+ runners),, the boys are using speedweek as a test and tune, its the FIM record at BUB`s that thay are gunning for  .

Thanks Cookey,

I saw that but wasn't sure it was Ev as I didn't know her last name. 30% up is a goodly jump.

Cheers,
Rob

See that Greg and Fireman Jim (Watters /Higgens #1379B & #3791B) are toying with both the 750 MPS-BF & M-BG records on their up runs. Failed to get the record for M-BG at 190.451 on their down run  ,, however thay are looking good for the MPS-BF record which currently stands at 166.451mph, thay ran a 220with change yesterday 8),,,
