Bonneville 2011

Organising shipping for a container to Bonneville , currently we have 3 motorbikes and lots of space, anyone else interested in taking a vehicle to run at either Speedweek, Bubs, Elmirage , World of speed, Cook shootout or World finals ???
currently planning on arriving in the US on Aug 20 or so for Bubs but could arrange for earlier if Speedweek is of interest and leaving after WOS
Still getting a quote for freight expecting cost ~$12k for the round trip in a 20ft container shared between the users
Entries for Bubs need to be in by June 10 and can be done online

Further to what Greg has said above,,, The container will land in Oakland, Oakland to Bonneville is approx 1000k, petrol in the States is "cheap", you can hire a Cargo van or Pickup (takes two motorbikes) for about $25 a day,,,, Accomodation at Motel 6 in Wendover (very comfortable) at $35-$40 a night, bit more on weekends,,,, food is cheap,,, eat at the baemarie`s(spelling) in the casinos, $20, all you can eat, if your over 50, it`s $14,,, Flights and Travel Insurance $2700,, shop around maybe get a deal,,,,the more bikes we take, the cheaper for everyone,,,
A great opptunity to run your bike at Bonneville , dont think about it, too good of an opptunity to miss, just do it :!:

Should be able to do flights and travel Insurance for a whole lot better than $2700 from a capital city too, sub $2k I'd think in cattle class assuming you book well ahead.

On a good day you'll get the flights under 2 grand from Melb or Syd........"well ahead" doesn't seem to make that huge a difference but they do vary widely from DAY TO DAY........I paid 200 bucks more than I'd been quoted two days after the quote, and then the price dropped , f%#$*%@$#%! a(*&$##^&*S......I ran quotes for one month out, two, three, they oscillated the same way. It's when yougo more than when you book.......walk up to a quantas flight desk two hours before a flight leaves and you might even better that price....

They advertise $15-1600 flights........who wants to spend a night at the Auckland airport?....and a flight time over twenty hours when you can get there in 14.5...

So yeah, my suggestion is seat and insurance is more like $2200 from eastern seaboard cities.

Ronnie is probably paying $500 for the camel ride from Mackay to Brisneyland :wink:

$1750 return syd to vegas 13 hrs , drive up from there .

Doc,

It varys on what day(s) you're flying too. Tuesday-Thursday are generally cheaper than Friday through Monday. QANTAS will cost you an additional $400 to $500 Sydney to LA/San Fran return (over the cheaper airlines) and the cheaper airlines generally won't include a meal or movie.

If you book your internal flight(s) as part of your international flight you will get the full international baggage allowance for the entire trip (23kg each for 2 checked bags from memory), if you book them seperately you will be limited to the US domestic baggage allowances which are far lower.

yeah, should have said, If you want to fly Qantas......( I have my own reasons, plenty of them)

I could suggest a list of airlines that should be avoided. If you're on a tight schedule the cheap lines are nearly always trouble.

Yep, and the Travel Insurance, :wink: ,, Air NuZud was the way to do it, that is until thay thru that overnite at Aukland into the mix, :x ,,, im flying United this time, Sydney to San Francisco, :) ,,, Louise at Travelaire Tours always arranges my travel stuff, never had a problem, contact her on #07-3474 6456,, she specialises in motor sport holidays 8)

I was on this Qantas flight to Perth.

Kinda glad it was Qantas and not one of those El Cheapos.
We circled for 40 mins at low altitude and low speed (about 200mph) before attempting to land again.
I kept thinking, gee this is about how fast them mad buggers go on the salt.

United was good when they partnered with Air NZ but if I were to fly them again I'd shell out for premium economy. "Regular" economy is really, really tight and I'm only just on 6'.

If you're travelling to the US with kids, United is the only airline currently flying the route that does not have headrest screens. 14 hours of trying to entertain kids gets old fast.

The boss is flying to LA on Delta next week so I'll have the goss there in a couple of weeks.

What, no videos, or the flightparth screen, wont be able to predict when we will hit the "bump" crossing the equator :? ,, dont tell me thay havent got headphones, the headrest screens i can do without,,, but i gotta have music :wink: :)

What happened about your engine problems?
I've given up on the Weslake - every thing in the engine is a problem.
I'm putting the 125 in Alex's bike and bringing that.
What day are arriving in Los Angeles?
I haven't booked yet, We could save Jim a trip.

Gaz and I paid under $1k last August for a Virgin flight from Brisbane to LA. Gaz got it $50 cheaper because he came up from Sydney (go figure!). We're both well over 6' and I'm twice as big as he is and it was fairly comfortable in comedy class. Lots of movies (watched Mad Max 1) and music and overall a good flight. 32kg baggage allowance. Not sure what the prices are now though.

Did a landing at Melb on Qantas about a month back. Landing from the south and I was watching the buses on the Tulla freeway beside me and could see the faces on the people in the buses.
The plane then hangs the tail down real low and I thought this is odd, obviously trying to scrub off speed like a bird landing

Then it drops suddenly and what seemed like a long way considering our altitude. Similtaniously the pilot points the nose in the air and hits the gas and heads nearly straight up. Could of heard a pin drop and everyone was holding their breath. Then the pilot comes on and says we suffered wind shear.
We eventually landed after a third attempt and the pilot shook ever passengers hand as we got off.
