2200 mph "ON LAND !!!"

Postby gidge348 » Wed Jun 08, 2011 12:24 pm

Just found a new web site for Sonic Wind LSV the latest project or from Waldo Stakes.

http://sonicwindlsrv.com/index2.php#/home/

The car will be powered by a XLR99 Rocket engine as used in the X15 rocket plane.

"The team also has larger tanks built which once installed into the vehicle would enable Sonic Wind LSRV to reach a peak velocity of Mach 3 (2,200 miles per hour) on the ground. This is about the speed the famous SR-71 Blackbird spy plane can attain at extremely high altitudes."

What speed rated tyres would he use?
.........and, will he be wearing a HANS device? If yes, pay attention to how he gets it on and off Animal. :D

Just did some numbers on the wheels at that speed.

From the videos etc they look like about 20" diameter and if we say they are 10kg weight....... Well :?: :?: :?:

At 2200 mph

They would be spinning at 36,000 rpm
They would have a surface acceleration of 748,000 G's
and a consistent force of 8252 Tons.... radially on EACH wheel......

That is just one of the problems to overcome....

How many miles would you need for the run up, and then to slow it down again? Is there a salt flat big enough?

2200mph would make the curvature of the earth feel like you just crested a rise in the road and gets light on the down slope
