My Thoughts on BUB`s

Post by Stayt`ie »

let me start by saying that i didn`t want to come home, had a ball :D , how luckie are those yanks, bloody bitimun road almost to the pits, and a clean motel room, complete with hot and cold running water, not to mention a different casino to check out each night 8),,,
over three hundred bikes entered, covering everything from scooters too streamliners, everywhere you looked there was something too check out, and the americans are a friendly mob, so the voice box was pretty horse come the end off the day, no worrie`s a cool ale in one of the casions soon helped...
there were two courses, on the western side off the pits was the "run what ya brung" course, two mile run up, timed mile,,, on the eastern side was the "international" course, five mile run up, timed mile, five mile run down,,, the pits were positioned at the timed mile section,, the courses were about two hundred yards from the pits, so the action was nice and close,,, although i didnt get out too check the courses, most said thay were slippery, but jason mcvicer and john noonan managed 240+ :?: ...
the staging lanes, order off running wasent the best, many seemed to sit all day in line while others got a number offf run`s in,, thay had a bloke writing down the numbers of the bikes in line, but somehow people were being bypassed when it came time too go, thay were sending about six bikes at a time down to the two or five mile start line, there was discontentment from some off the racers,,,,,, it appeared too me that the orginisers were caught out by the number of bikes entered, and didnt have the personal to handle it...
the passes at times were good, once one bike had cleared the track, the next was on its way, however at times there were long intivals between runs, for no apparent reason,,,, the announcer would build the run up, telling you who and what it was, but only now and then would he give out what speed thay had run, that really pissed me off,,,,
given these problems, and that it was only the fourth running off the event, and the numbers were almost double of the previous event, i recon it will develope into a "major" "world" motorcycling event as years go on,,,
yep, i am planeing on takeing my bike over in two years time for the 09 event :D :D
if ya thinking of going for a look, get onto john winterburn at travelair tours in brisbane #07-32742131, he specalizes in overseas trips for motorheads,,, i told him where i wanted too go and dates, he orginised everything, no worries :D,,
what did it cost i hear ya ask, well a mate came with me and we shared the cost off the rental car and motel, cost me about $3700.00, for ten days, pretty good i recon :D 8)

Chris

They posted a track layout on Landracing and they were parallel with the pits in between.

Stayt'ie - is this right?

thay were parallel, with the pits in the middle, between them,, the "run what ya brung" course started at the northern end,, and the international course main start line was at the southern (dyke) end 8) ..
one thing that i really liked, was how close you were to the action, both courses were approx 200 yards from the pits,, when the ack attack liner went through you could hear the wind "cracking", (like a stockwhip) :D

You wouldn't be related to the bloke in the Courier Mail over the weekend, would you? Same last name from Mackay. He was the original owner of a Phase 2 XW that is about to go to auction and is expected to pull $450k.......

Thanks Stayt'ie and Lynch
Worth a thought moving the ever growing spectators closer to the action. The currant safety/buffer zone seems huge heh

Stayt'ie,

It was great to see you there, would have been better if you had a bike to ride however I know it is expensive to race overseas..

The course was much better early in the week and faster by about 5-7 mph however three days later we ran almost the same speed as Jason (lucky bugger) in the wetter salt however like my trip to Australia we had a great time.

I hope all of you are well and I hope to come back over again if we can get some financing..(sponsors)

Take care,

John & Michelle
