RULE 3.I.1 Fuel Shut-off

Post by ROSS BROWN »

All cars with other than stock fuel system shall have a fuel
shut-off within the driver's reach. Electric fuel pumps shall
have a switch in the crcuit to disable the pump operation. All
electric fuel pumps shall have an inertial or other positive
"shut off switch" e.g. microprocessor controlled , or
oil pressure switch.

This rule also applies to motorcycle streamliners 7.H.8.
I dont have a complete grasp of the rule , :?
This is what I'm reading into it ..... In the case of an event (engine failure or crash ) fuel will no longer be required and will need to be shut down without driver /rider input ,thus being controlled by a" microprocessor " (I do know what one is, but like a lawn mower ,its only true design function is to "piss you off ") so lets move right along to the "oil pressure switch" Once oil pressure is lost the switch deactivates the pump or operates a soleniod that shuts down the fuel supply to the pump ( either, or :? )
2 cents anybody :?:

Hi Ross,
You can plumb in a 4 pound switch (I use a VDO unit) that will break contact and shut off the electric fuel pump when oil pressure drops.
In order to prime the fuel system you can fit an over ride button into the circuit.
Cheers,

Thanks Cookey
Just did a Google on VDO , what they didn't say was what amperage could be run through the pressure switch.
Will be using Holley Pumps . Do you run directly through the pressure switch or are you fitting a relay in the system ?
Cheers Ross

Ross
Always use a relay
You could also add a tilt switch off a modern injected motorcycle
Usually found under the seat in a little rubber mount with either "up" or "top" written on it
So you switch the earth of the relay (86) thru the oil pressure switch and the switch the power on (85) via a tilt switch using 30 for batt+ and 87 to the pump

An LPG safety switch is what I've always used. Simple if the coils not pulsing it swiches off.
About $30 from any LPG supplier.

And they have a nice little red LED to let you know they are working.
May be hard to setup on stick coils

Ross
don't you need a tip sensor in the liner? I recon one off an injected bike would work.
45 deg from verticle and it shuts down.
I haven't read the rules for a while but I think that's what it said

Yep Bones
7.H. 13
50 degree sensor on closed tail streamliners and 80 degree sensor on open tail.
Primary function is to release parachutes....... 80 degrees and ya pretty well on your side. :? .. 50 degrees appears the better option.
Adding another tilt switch to the shut down system is an option . (will think it through )

Glad it could be usefull,
and as you have seen how it works i don't need to explain the mounting direction , :D seen them turned into acceleration and brake limiters before

You bloody mad bikers are bad guys.
Next you'll be using the rev limiter as traction control.
