Goodyear D2283 tyre growth

Post by JonB »

Hi

Does anyone have tyre growth data for Goodyear D2283 23x5x15 tyres.
I got given some that is meant to be from Goodyear that seems a little weird, it shows the tyre as 9.8" radius @ 0 rpm, a 23" tyre should be 11.5" @ 0 rpm.
I'm mocking up a front wheel well & want to leave enough room but height is pretty important as I'm looking over the top of the wheel well.

Thanks
Jon

Hi Jon
How fast do you plan on going?
At Cook's shootout this year Richard Assen used a 26 inch ( I think) tyre on the rear of his bike.
I think he didn't go much over 200 but it grew more than the street tyre he had been using which went 260+ for the record.
Greg might remember how much clearence he had but maybe 50mm would be ok

Thanks Bones

Hopefully will get a decent pace out of it one day, first year I will run the engine standard to make sure everything works ok.

Will be going to Lake Gairdner this year to have a look & do some volunteer work.
Plan is to take my bike in 2013.

Like the bikes that you are building with your son.

Thanks

I think it was 25mm or so, definitely not enough
not had a lot of success with these tires yet 2284's , as car tires there profile is wrong,
we had them reprofiled and there still not great if there is a side wind

Thanks Greg

Who reprofiled your tyre?
In Brisbane or up your way?

Had then done in California
But i believe Stuckys can do them here
http://www.stuckey.com.au/services.aspx

I don't believe shaving the landspeed tires is necessarily a good idea
there is very little material to work with ,
they continue to grow and do not reach true shape untill 250 or so mph

unless your class requires you to run these tires i would stick to good touring tires , shaved if you want.

Thanks Greg
I'm building a streamliner around a cbr1000 motor so hopefully in after few years running I will be needing LSR tyres.
More collecting parts than making at the moment.
I don't want to get a few years down the track & start again because I didn't make enough room for tyre growth.

Thanks

John,
I hope to have mine on the salt in 2013 also a 1000cc bot will start with an old gpz900r.
I have a bunch of engines from road race sidecars.
Maybe we can have a bike liner shootout sometime--- as long as the stars line up.
I think the tyres will work much better on a liner than an open bike. Ack Attack and BUB7 use flatter tyres.
I'm going to run on frontrunners to learn how to ride it. I figure that might take a couple of years
They come from the same mould and are available in most of the same sizes and there cheep
There's lots of pics around of both bikes especially Ack Attack
Have you started the chassis?
How about some pics.
What sort of steering are you going to use?
What model engine

The steering is hub center. A bit hard to see, but all I have

Bones
Nice looking build, do you have a build thread on it?
Did you make the hub centre steering?
I'm pretty happy with the profile of the tyre mounted, just want to make sure I don't build the swingarm & front fork too short, hence this question.
The motor have is out of a 1987 CBR1000f.
Only have a pile of parts at the moment, if I keep focused I think 2013 is doable; just......
My steering will be similar to Buddfab but monoshock.
Don't have much to look @ but might start a build thread here or the LSR forum in a month or so to give people a laugh & hopefully cop some advice & motivation.

Cheers
Jon
