TECH INSPECTION 2012

Post by BOB ELLIS »

After a lengthy disscussion, the DLRA Chief car inspectors (Bob Ellis & Brian Nicholson) have agreed on a level of forgiveness with this events Tech inspection.

Window Nets , Each vehicle will be taken on its merits (Cage design-ie. restraining drivers limbs inside the cage limits, and estimated top speed),

Helmet Restraints (SFI spec 38.1),We urge ALL participants to present themselves with this device.Along with complying with the lateral head movement clause. If we feel the driver(for example , in a lower speed but well built and safe vehicle) will not be at risk,we will be prepared to let the said driver run.

Inertia Switch , If you have an electric fuel pump/pumps,you MUST have an inertia switch in the electrical circuit to shut down the fuel pump in an accident situation.OR at minimum , a cutout switch on the oil pressure line (will require a bypass switch/button to activate fuel pump till oil pressure builds).

Roll Cage Padding,MUST be SFI spec 45.1 (45.2 for flat surfaces),NO MORE cheap poly foam padding,it is extremely flammable.

You will have any and all infractions put into your logbook, and next year 2013 there will be NO exceptions.

Drive shaft safety loops , please remember that some cars (late model production) have two piece drive shafts- this means TWO safety loops,

We are hoping to start tech inspection on the Saturday (late AM), you will present your vehicle in FULL RACE condition.ALL drivers are to attend with the race vehicle, and ALL drivers are to present their race suits/helmets etc.

You MUST have ALL your paper work in order when you present the vehicle for inspection!! If not,you will be pushed through to the back of the line up!! We are expecting record numbers of competitors at this years meet,so time wasting will not be acceptable,to us,to you,and to your fellow racers. It will be a busy time, so please be patient.

Sorry for the ranting people, but this is a dangerous game, and we don't want anyone going home injured,or worse not going home at all.

See ya all soon , Bob.

Hi, I was of the understanding that the logbook would be issued/oraganised at the lake; is this the 'paperwork;' you mention?

I will be presenting (hopefully on Saturday) with a freshly-built car

Cheers

Good morning DLRA member 1078,
(just got the new members and entrants lists from Carol last night and have been busy updating the web pages)
As a first timer and pre-entrant your only paperwork is your entry form which is now safe and secure in the pre-entrants folder. When you present at the registration caravan the first thing you will do is pay your $25 annual subscription. Then move to the pre-entrants queue. When you get to the front, Youwill be asked for you name and your entry form will be retrieved from the folder, this will be your last chance to provide any missing information (most typically the class you will be running). Then you will get wrist bands for driver(s) and support team and your licence, vehicle log book and inspection list which you will hand to the scrutineer when you present your vehicle for safety inspection. Any outstanding fees will be paid at this time as well. The log book is used to record details for each year the vehicle runs and any comments from the scrutineers which will probably what you need to do to run next time.
And hopefully you will be able to pick up a 2012 Speed Week souvineer program (if I can get it finished by the 6th)
You then take all of this documentation, your vehicle and all your safety gear and head for the scrutineering tents. There are seperate tents for cars and bikes, and there will probably be separate queues for returning and new vehicles. (new vehicles take a lot longer to check out) Note this is primarily a safety inspection and you may be required to demonstrate this equipment, this can include things likehow you get out of your car or the cut-off lanyard on your bike. This is where it's a good idea to have receipts or certificates of compliance for your safety gear.
If you or your vehicle does not pass inspection you will be given the opportunity to present again if you can address the problem.
Once racing starts, as a new competitor you will have to demonstrate that you are capable of being able to control your vehicle at certain speeds. These being 125, 150, 175 (with parachute pull) and 200 MPH. Until you have attained these licences you may not exceed these speeds. You will need to get your speed signed off on your licence by an observer which will be at the start to the GPS track or at Race Control (Animal's Bus) then you can proceed to the next speed.
There will be a drivers briefing each morning and anyone who intends to run that day must attend. A roll will be taken.
Well this ended up a bit longer than I expected but there's a lot to take in, hope it helps.
Keep the shiney side up........

The 'paper work' as described by our webmaster(LogBook - Tech Sheet-etc) MUST be completely filled out before you reach the tech team,It wastes SO Much time if the forms are not filled out. This is why you will be pushed through, and go to the back of the line up.So please EVERYONE,follow the procedure that is required. We want to get you all checked as quick as we can,You helping us,will help you!!
