Motorcycle Leathers (hump)

Post by Montlhery »

Gday to the bike guys . I would like to seek a clarification on rule 7.C.2 on page 65 of the new rule book. "Fairing (leather or Cloth only) on the back of leathers is allowed in partial streamling class only" . Does this refer to the hump on back of leathers ? A lot of "off the shelf ' leathers come with this as standard now and I was under the impression this was more for safety ie to protect the upper back ,than for streamlining.
Thanks Guys

Not sure of the safety aspect but most new leathers will not pass DLRA rules as they have perforations and most old leathers dont have humps. They need to be custom made.

Gday Dave ,I think the rules allow limited perforations now . Most off the shelf leathers should hopefully be allowed ? The question is the hump .Surely more padding around the upper back would be better than none .( Also I am guessing "Fairing" means hump ,I could be completly wrong this has happened before) This would mean under the new rules if you had leathers with hump and you ride a naked bike you would have to enter the PS class ie Partial Streamlining . We will have to wait for Grayem ,Dave or Gary to clarify.

Hi Montlhery
As Dave said perforations and/or cloth stretch panels on most of the off the hook suits are going to be an issue.

Most recent thread I can find is http://www.dlra.org.au/forum/viewtopic. ... ion#p16787

Cheers

I want to revive this thread - so hump in the image attached fails?

I am looking at getting leathers made up - I was not planning on running in partial streamlining for the next event (but will do in future events). I'd rather have the hump, so if this is too big, let me know and I will plan to run in partial streamlining :)

Note: Don't worry about the cloth bits I am getting those sorted

The answer is no
you cannot run a hump (fairing) in open class

as long as you're not going to sit on the bike facing backwards we shouldn't have a problem
