Roof rails

What is the purpose of roof rails on cars over 200mph?
What is the best material to use and how do you attach them?

Any input welcome.

Roof rails from my understanding are supposed to help channel the air flow over the top of the car and help with high speed stability.
Generally made of thin angle aluminium pop riveted on. You can screw em pooh em or glue em if you like
