" the first Porsche 997 I pulled to bits took me 3 weeks solid work (and a period where l gave up) to work out the secret of how they assembled the barrels over the pistons. Only Porshe factory guys and a few very stubborn determined people will every know that secret and I will carry it to my grave. "
That sounds a lot like trying to "slip" honda leadwing 'cases together Chris ,without knowing what the pistons and rings are doing while its happening ( the barrels are part of the case 1/2's)

You would never believe what the solution is with the Porsche problem. You can get the first two easy but the last one.......................

l have my limits and know some things only a screwed up Pom with antisocial psyhcotic tendences would attempt and a Jag V12 is one of them. You can pick them they can be found in little sheds in back lanes of run down suburbs, they mumble to themselves and appear not to notice what you have just said and have no conseption of time. They tuck there shirt in one side of there trousers (that they were married in) and struggle to pere through the filthy horn rimmed glasses. There may be dribble out of one side of there mouth and they will point to the only clear patch of floor. That is where you leave the motor.
Good luck with that
Love Chris

So now I'm a neutralized Aussie citizen, i don't have to work on Jag's
I knew it was worthwhile.

I'm not a mechanic's a-hole.... but I can read......My old boss showed me a road test when the V12 was new, they got 8-9mpg....you could wear a set of rear tyres out in a week with a 327 and get better fuel figures than that.....anyway , those V12s might have used heaps of juice but at least they were unreliable.

Jag V12 5.3litre

Compression ratio 9.00:1
Fuel system Lu fuel inj.
Maximum power
(DIN) 289 PS (285.0 bhp) (212.5 kW)
@ 5500 rpm
Specific output 53.3 bhp/litre
0.87 bhp/cu in
Maximum torque
(DIN) 399.0 Nm (294 ft·lb) (40.7 kgm)
@ 3500 rpm
bmep 938.2 kPa (136.1 psi)
Specific torque 74.66 Nm/litre

Chev 327ci(5.3 litre)

360 H.P. V8-327 Fuel Inj. 4.0 x 3.25 327 11.25 360BHP @ 6000 352ft/lb @ 4000

(just for the record I used the Corvette version because it's injected but there's this one...still hi-comp but hey.....300 H.P. V8-327 4 Barrel 4.0 x 3.25 327 10.5 300 @ 5000 360 @ 3200)
...few understand what I'm trying to do , but they vastly outnumber those who understand why..

Heh Goggles
That line on the V12's using juice sounds like the workshop motto at one place l once worked, it went " We might be rough but thank f#*k we're slow"

Paul (Penny)

Obviously just an XJS with the rust cut out!

those V12s might have used heaps of juice but at least they were unreliable.

If they were that unreliable they would have been quite economical - hmmm?

One thing that I do know is that the V8 on methanol will be quite a bit thirstier than a standard 5.3

Now - changing thread again. I visited Trevor last night because it was build night on the streamliner and it looks great! At first glance I thought not much had changed but then when you take a closer look there has been heaps of work. They are still working on the body but they are at the wiring stage so it is getting closer to completion.
