Presidents Report
==============================================================================
Rob Carroll
As you probably know, the Victorian Division had a General Meeting on 30th January at Aussie Desert Coolers factory. Some items to come out of that meeting are as follows;

The dates for Speed Week for the next 5 years are;
6-10 March 2006
5-9 March 2007
10-14 March 2008
9-13 March 2009
8-12 March 2010

Operational Plan - I would like to extend a large thankyou to Ross Allen (DEH) and Russell Mack for getting the operational Plan up and running. We will use the plan this year and then review it after Speed Week, making any changes to the document for 2006.

Warm-Up Track - If you want to use the warm-up track, please make sure you have a support vehicle close by to observe the race car while on the warm-up track.

Speed - As noted in the last newsletter, the speed of all vehicles, including race vehicles, will need to be kept to walking pace only. This means you don't roll your race car back to your pit at more than walking pace.

We have about 10 amber flashing lights that were donated to the club. Some have magnetic bases and some have lighter plugs on the cable. They will be available to members on a first come first served basis for race week. If you have one already, it would be wise to bring it with you. Thanks to John Smith and Les Salmon for these.

We have not had any fire extinguishers donated, so you will need to get one of these and other mandatory items as detailed in the last newsletter for your support vehicle.

Please be sure you have a container of some shape or form to store your fuel or oil drums in. This container should be large enough to hold the contents of the drum should it start to leak or overflow. Plastic containers may work best and could stop your jerry cans etc from getting rusty.

As mentioned in the January meeting minutes (printed in this newsletter), we need some volunteers to fill certain roles during speed week. I will call for these at the drivers meeting.

After the January meeting I contacted Doc at Port Augusta and asked him to chase up someone in his area to be a medical person. After some inquiries he called me back and told me that he had secured the services of Whyalla SES (2 persons and a van)

Please read the rest of the minutes in this newsletter about the maintenance etc, especially the second cool room. I am hoping to organise a couple of fridge mechanics to connect it together and gas it so we can use it this year. We all know how overloaded the cool room is on Sunday and Monday. I have organised with Mt. Ive to purchase 2 x 100lb LPG bottles for the BBQ and Hot Water Service.

Checked with Dion at Mt. Ive on the 9th February about how much rain they had received. He said very little and that a film crew had been on the lake the previous week. He also reported he is getting parts made in Adelaide for the grader. At this time I don't know if it will be repaired in time to grade the road to the camp before the meeting.

That's it for know, see you all at Speed Week.
Lets go fast! But lets do it safely!

Rod's Rambling's:
==============================================================================
Rod Hadfield
There's no rambling's from Rod in this issue as he is Stateside. But Carol very kindly passed on some news of his exploits.
"Hi everyone, I thought you may all be interested that Rod has won five awards at the National Roadster Show at Pomona, The 'T Coupe picked up "Top Coupe" and "Top Display", the '55 won "Top Engineering Excellence", "Top ProStreet Competition" and "Top Display", the "Competition" award is a 5 ft. high trophy and was a sweepstake award as well. Rod is so stoked that he has kicked butt over there, there will be some pretty unhappy Americans right now!! He has been invited (expenses paid) to attend the show in Sacramento in two weeks and in Portland, Oregon in early February. He is living his dream.

Regards, Carol Hadfield"

Chief Stewards Report
==============================================================================
John Dawson
The time draws near. This has become evident to me by the increasing number of phone calls and faxes I receive. If half the number of new machines turn up that are under construction, it should make for a very interesting meeting.

I attended the DLRA meeting at Norm and Vicky's factory in Preston on the 30th of January. Thank you to Norm and Vicky for the use of your factory and the excellent lunch provided afterwards.

The tone of the meeting was friendly and relaxed as always and a variety of topics were covered, of particular note was a document prepared by the Department and the DLRA as a guideline for the use of the lake, covering spectator conduct, environmental matters, safety and general well being of all who use it. Thaks to Russell Mack for presenting this document to us at the meeting.

I spoke at the meeting on Helmet standards and let everyone know that 2005 will be the last year that Snell95 standard will be accepted. From now on Snell2000 will be the minimum standard.

Tyres are still a major issue to us and I have had many queries on the subject. John and Paul Broughan have just purchased new Goodyear Eagle Landspeed tyres for their belly tank so if your chasing this type of tyre speak to them at the Lake.

Bob Ellis and Gary Baker have sent me some very good information on speed and load ratings of tyres, so if anybody would like a copy of this please let me know.

It was a pleasure to catch up with everybody who attended the meeting in Melbourne and I look forward to seeing you all at the Lake in March

APOLOGIES: Simon Muntz, Neil Stamp, Peter Noy, Dean & Aulis Soderblom, Wayne Pickles, Wayne Mumford, Chris Weir, Jason Van Dyk, Rod Saville, Wally James and Gary Baker.

MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING:
The previous minutes were read by Rob Carroll.

MOVED BY: Rob Carroll 2nd: John Hanson
The Treasurer requested $400.00 petty cash to cover Postage, Stationery, Printing etc, this was MOVED

BY: Rob Carroll 2nd: Greg Butler

INWARD CORRESPONDANCE:
* An email was received from the Clean fuel and vehicles section of the Department of Environment & Heritage in Sydney wanting a report on how many Leaded Fuel Passbooks had been issued and how many we have left.

* A fax from Neville Douglass with some points to be raised, this is to be in general business.

OUTWARD CORRESPONDANCE:
* A reply to the Dept. of Environment and Heritage stating that we have issued 32 Fuel passbooks and have 8 left.

* A Letter to Len & Joy Newton regarding the sublease.

* A letter to Bonneville Racing News to advise the correct dates for Speed week 14th ? 18th March 2005.

GENERAL BUSINESS:
* Rob Carroll had been advised by the Department for Environment and Heritage in Port Lincoln to make bookings for Speedweek at Lake Gairdner for five years in advance . This has been done and the dates will be in the next newsletter.

* Steve Charlton suggested that the club shirts have these dates printed on the back of them. We are to discuss this at the next meeting.

* There was discussion regarding the annual auction and it was decided that Steve Charlton and John Broughan are to organise and display the goods to be auctioned.

* A discussion was held regarding signs for Speedweek, Les Salmon and Steve Charlton are to organise as many 80 kmh, 60 kmh and Dust signs as they can, Rob Carroll to organise two Spectator Parking signs, John Lynch is to move our large DLRA sign close to the Iron Knob turnoff and John Broughan is to organise a small sign at Iron Knob.

* Russell Mack explained to the meeting the Operational Plan he and Rob Carroll had put together from information supplied by Ross Allen from the Department for Environment and Heritage, this plan and its contents were requested by the Department. There was discussion on several matters, those being:

* That the club have Visitors Book with a disclaimer for Spectators to sign, the committed is to organise this.

* Support vehicles on the warm up track.

* The speed of Competition cars coming back into the pits.

* There is the need to have the following roles filled at Speedweek:

* Pit Area Officer, Spectator Management Officer, Emergency Cleanup Response Officer, Medical Emergency

Response Officer- Rob Carroll advised the meeting that the Paramedic that had been organised for this weeks Speedweek is now unable to attend, he is to contact some of our Port Augusta Members to see if we can get a qualified person or persons from that area to cover this.

* Rob thanked Russell Mack and Ross Allen for their input in putting this together.

* Rob then discussed maintenance required at the campsite and is looking for volunteers to help out. The cool room needs levelling, there needs to be a person responsible to fill the generator during

Speedweek, there is a leak in the Gas Bottles at the BBQ that needs to be fixed and the leaf blower needs someone to check it each day. John Dawson offered to organise a battery for the Dodge Truck.

* There was discussion on the requirement for push cars and support vehicles, they are all to have a UHF radio, Fire Extinguisher, flashing light on the roof, oil spill kit, tarpaulin and a first aid kit. John Smith and Les Salmon have donated some flashing lights to the club.

* There was a discussion on the Mt. Ive Grader that had been repaired, the club paid 75% of the cost of the parts. Geoff Marden went and fixed it, with Dion from Mt. Ive. Station and did approximately five hours on the grader and it has broken again so a track was not able to be put in, it seems that there is no-where feasible for a new track to go into the lake.

* Rob Carroll had a copy of an article in an Engineering magazine regarding a member who has developed a pump to prevent gas tanks from exploding, the article stated that it was to be tested at Lake Gairdner, Rob phoned him and told him that it was not going to happen at our meeting.

* The meeting discussed the points that Neville Douglass had raised in his fax, the first one being that we approach the owners of Mt. Ive Station to allow permanent caravan type power outlets. We will also have to discuss this with our club electricians and then source the required equipment.
Another question on Neville?s fax was whether the club T Shirts could be printed without the Belly tank Lakester on the back so that members could have their own cars displayed on them, the meeting decided not to do this, leaving it up to the individual members to print their own shirts.
Neville also proposed that he wishes to provide a perpetual trophy each year in memory of his son Reece, this will probably start in 2006.

* Rob Carroll told the meeting that UHF Channel 8 will be used at this years event so that we don't clash with the surrounding stations, he will call Russell Branson from the Fire and Rescue Service and Ross Allen from the Department of Environment and Heritage this week to check that everything is in order. The surveyors are booked and he will also get them to survey the campsite so that Fred Nitschke

can put the proposal for the sub lease together with Len & Joy Newton.

* John Lynch is to get some oil spill kits for the club from Ballarat.

* Rob Carroll thanked Cled Davies for purchasing the cool room and ice makers.

* Andy Jenkins has ordered another trailer to transport a portable toilet which is to be picked up in March for this years meeting.

* Mark Hadfield donated a chest freezer to the club.

* Norm Hardinge reported that Street Machine magazine and Rodders Life television program have expressed interest in covering our event this year.

Stewards Reports:
Chief Steward: John Dawson told the meeting of some changes that will have to be enforced for the 2006 meeting:
* Helmets will have to be at least Snell 2000 and nothing previous to that.

* Driving suits will have to be looked at also.

Starter: Cled Davies told the meeting:
* That he will have a fridge available at the start line for soft drinks and water but not alcohol.

* He also recommended that the club purchase a Wind speed indicator, it was moved by Rob Carroll and seconded by Ray Charlton that Cled purchase one of these.

* During the meeting a raffle was held with $100.00 being collected, Russell Mack won a poster donated by Robin Czech and Steve Charlton won a Car Cleaning kit donated by Mark Hadfield.

* Rob Carroll thanked Norm and Vicki for the use of their premises for the meeting and for providing lunch.

The meeting was then closed.

Hello, Queensland Here,
We had a special gathering at Chris Hanlon's (of grey XP Ute fame) on the 23rd of January. Chris and

Cathy went to a lot of trouble and it was surely appreciated by those that turned up. Liked the CD photo show on the big screen.

Well the Sunshine State might be the best place to live, and have some great advantages, but it's distance from Lake Gairdner isn't one of them. An average of about 2,200Km away from Brisbane At times it almost seems the logistics of it all takes almost as much effort as getting a race vehicle ready. These that use buses and trucks for transporters deserve a medal just for getting there.

This year I had planned to tow a box trailer down loaded with spares and a little runaround motorcycle . Hey tow a trailer 4500Km round trip, that's gotta slow things down a bit. Rationalised things a bit.

Have fitted with a false level floor to right behind the roll cage in the station wagon. Now I can get the bike in on it's side and will just have to cut down on the amount of spares I take. Also have to fit the pump up air shocks in the back to stop the back dragging too low.

Yep I'm going to run the little red wagon again. Have changed lots of mechanicals, now has a twin cam 24v head, not sure how much more power, still not dynoed. Will be in a different class because of the mods, probably F/GC or F/GALT.

Anyways that's my news for now, see you at Lake Gairdner.
