Presidents Report
=======================================================================
Rob Carroll
Those planning to make the trip to Mt. Ive in March should take note that there will be no rubbish bins or dump hole in the camp. The hole will be filled in at Christmas and you will have to take away with you anything that you bring. So you may want to consider bringing cans instead of bottles (which we would prefer anyway) so they can be crushed to compact the rubbish you have to take away with you. Remember if you had enough space to bring it you must have enough to take it away the packaging once you have used it. Please adhere to this so we can have a clean camp as well a s a clean lake. This decision has been made after discussions with Mt. Ive owner, Len Newton and the fact that many people leave before everything is cleaned up or put away and it's always the same few members left to clean up at the end of the week.

Trevor Beck is currently negotiating with an Ice company at Port Pirie to supply a truck with 10 ton of ice to sell at the race meeting. It appears our #2 cool room will not be gassed up, because our member cannot get holidays at Christmas to go to the working bee. A 10Kg bag of ice will be $5 to $6.

Also don't forget that you push car will be inspected with your race car and it needs all the required safety gear and the brakes and tyres will be inspected. It's also up to you to provide registration and insurance for your push car, a s the lake is regarded as a public road. Therefore you will be liable for third party damages. Be assured the DLRA will not be held responsible for any claims.

Our starter Cled, has purchased a new generator for the timing van for $650. I have it in my shed and will take it to Mt. Ive for Christmas. Speaking of Mt. Ive, Len Newton has asked if we could repair the skylights in the roof of the shearing shed at the camp. I have organised the materials for this and Graeme Ward (one of our fireies) has offered to fit them and repair a couple of doors as well.

Looking through the Ingrams catalogue recently, I found a shut down device that we could use on the generator that may be better than the Murphy gauges. It works on charging voltage rather than temperature and will shut off fuel if voltage drops. May still need something on oil pressure as well.

Greg Butler tells me that he and Gary Brennan have made at least 400 corflute markers and he has material to make even more, so that will be plenty for the next meeting.

The toilet situation at the camp is still unsolved. We will probably hire some portable toilets from Whyalla to get us by for next March. Ideally we would like to aquire another toilet block similar to the pair we already have, but we can't do that just yet.

I've had a few calls asking us to change information on the website. If you find something that you believe is incorrect, could you please put it in writing and send it to the DLRA, PO Box 349, Castlemaine 3450 or by email drylakesracersau@hotmail.com Then it's more likely to get corrected. Please be patient for this to happen as we are all volunteers and we have other things in our lives as well.

As discussed at the July meeting in Melbourne, Brian Nicholson is setting up a frame with a fuel tank and mounts for the 2 dust blowers, which he is also supplying.

There has been some interest shown in club jackets recently and this will be discussed at the January meeting in Melbourne. If enough members want one, we will do a bulk order. Same for windcheaters and long sleeve t-shirts. For those members not able to attend, contact the committee.

It's now only a couple of months to the race meeting and there's not much time left to get ready.

The next Melbourne General Meeting will be on 29th January 2006 at the Aussie Desert Cooler factory starting at 11:00am.

That's it for now, wishing all members and their families a safe and happy Christmas along with a prosperous New Year.

Well it's Christmas again, don't the years pass quickly, especially for me anyway as I have spent 90% of the year in the USA checking out every Rodding activity that I could. The drags at Pomona were just incredible, the Rod Cruises and shows which are on every day and at the weekends I had a choice of two or three different events and that is just in the LA area where I spent most of the year. Carol and I drove our A model to Bonneville where we joined the Goodguys cruise which continued on to Spokane in Washington State for the North West Nationals and then down to Pleasanton for the Western Nationals which was massive. Because we wanted to have more time at Bonneville and catch the night time activities outside the Casinos in Wendover we left earlier than the rest of the cruise participants and joined the cruise from Bonneville, the cruise actually left from Pomona.

The crowds in the evenings at Wendover were huge and some of the activities the participants got up to on the side of the lake were hilarious, we saw a few of our members there, we were really happy to catch up with Mary West and Dick Williams. We had a couple of long discussions with Mike Akatiff of the Ack Attack team with their twin Hibusa powered streamliner bike. The track this year was nothing short of dangerous and there was one fatal accident. Mike Akatiff decided he wasn't going to run their bike once he saw how bad the track was, that is when we talked to them about Lake Gairdner. Anyway to cut a long story short, he and his team are coming to our event next year and have sent the club a large deposit as they need special track preparations, timing etc., as they want to set a World Record, they have arranged to have the FIM officials to be in attendance. President Rob has the Fire Crew and Medics organised and Carol has booked accommodation at Mt. Ive for the team. Mt. Ive is now full but of course camping is still available.

While I was in the U.S.A. Norm Bradshaw rang me to get some goodies for his car for next year's event and he has also bought a more aerodynamic Ford body to play with in the future. Norm Hardinge has some new tyres and is aiming for 200 mph out of his '34 at this event, or will Ray Charlton be the first 200mph Roadster?

While at Bonneville I had a long talk with the McDonald Pitts team whom run in the AA/FALT class which is the same and Lionel and I. They run a Pontiac two door and have made a one way pass of 298 mph but run a huge Nitrous kit and in fact we have run faster than them without the NOS. They suggested we try NOS as they have run for many years in this class and were quite surprised we had run a 259, so I thought, "why not try it". It must be bought on in stages so as not to upset the run, so I am working on a 4 stage kit. It is going to take a bit of fitting 4 bottles in an already crowded car!

On the plane home from the USA I was able to watch the movie "The World's Fastest Indian", if you get the chance to see it don't miss it. It is about a New Zealander called Bert Munro who took an Indian motor bike to Bonneville on a shoestring budget in 1950 and set a record, it is a true story and when I spoke to Tex Smith about it he said he was there when Bert showed up. The movie doesn't open in Australia until next year and the promoters have promised to give the DLRA some promotional material and maybe even a few tickets for the premiere. Carol should have more information about this later on.

We have at this date, 496 members and this coming event promises to be a good one with four known new cars coming. Don't forget about the working bee to be held between Christmas and New Year, contact Rob if you can. I wish to thank Rob and his wife Mary-Clare for helping out with the administration of the club while we were away. We look forward to seeing everyone at the General Meeting to be held on the 29th of January at Aussie Desert Cooler factory in Preston and Speedweek in March 2006.

The Lakes Prayer
=======================================================================
Our race meet, which is in March
Speedweek be its name.
The time has come
The build is done,
On dyno as it is on track.
Pump 'em up hard and shave the tread .
This year for some really fast passes.
'and three cheers for all those passes before us.
Lead us not into the crunchies,
But deliver us to five mile .
Brine is the Kingdom
The power
And the glory
For revver and revver
AMEN

There has been enormous interest in the various videos produced over the years and the DVD of the 2004 event was very popular. One of our members, Don Noble has decided to try and collect as much video footage as he can from any year to make a new video / DVD for the club as a fundraiser.
So all you budding cameramen, here's your big chance. All submissions will be very gratefully acknowledged.
For contributions Contact Don Noble, see details above.
