short or long course

Post by hawkwind racing »

It has been raised in several topics ,that is who should use the long or short course , well here is a topic just for that dicussion , my take on the subject is fairly simple ,same rules as for the bonneville racers
1. any vehicle must be able to achieve an average of 175 mph or greater between the 3 mile and 3 1/4 ,before they can use the long course
2.If a vehicle cannot achieve that minimum speed they MUST turn out no later than the 4 mile to 4.5 mile and move at least 500 meters perpendicular to the course before stoping
3.If the rider /driver fails to do this they are given a warning ,if they do it again then they are refused permission to run again simple
4.the rider /driver is to inform the starter what course they are running before starting ,this can then be relayed to the emergency crews and timer
5. if for any reason you abandon a run move over to the RHS of the course as soon as safe to do so then exit, move away from the course and waite for non emergency assistance
6. If for any reason you believe you have an emergency or you believe you have dumped parts /oil etc move to the left of the course ,stop and exit the vehicle if able to do so ,moving to the left will alert the emergency crews that there is a potental emergency situation

If you have anything to add or think something should be deleted feel free to respond
cheers

that about sums it up, Gary, we must strictly enforce these rules from now on, first a warning, then if you do it again you park your vehicle, simple.

get outa the way!

As a newcomer, I was very surprised to read the other night that some competitors have in previous years actually chosen to stop on the course at the end of their run and hold up proceedings for 15 minutes while they fiddle around doing whatever. That is unforgiveable. It wouldn't be tolerated in any other motorsport so it shouldn't happen here either. The rule should be as Gary says, get out of the way or go home. You aren't the only one there. And as for wanting to run the long course when you can't go 175mph on the short, you're just kidding yourself. If you can't do it in 3 miles you never will. You aren't Andy Green.

hi gary, great idea, it's easy enough to do. what we need is a clear sign to say short course turnoff just after the 4 mile mark & a graded bit of salt return road. as long as it is clearly marked. i have found it a bit hard to find the turnoff road sometimes. if this can be clearly explained at the drivers meeting & then when we do do the course drive that we stop at that point & point out the sign to everyone. also at the drivers meeting there are a lot of people there & i've found it a bit hard to hear proceedings. could we please have a megaphone or pa system setup to overcome this. also for us people who have raced there before have a look at who is pitted in your vicinity & if there a first timer go & have a chat with them to see if they are familar with the course procedure.
regards ben

A PA system will be available for the drivers meeting on the salt  and possibly even for the auction  if "Animal" promises not to sell or drop the microphone
Cheers,
Trevor

Don't forget if you buy, or borrow, an elcheapo UHF had held and put in on UHF channel 8 duplex you will here ALL official radio communications.
There will also be a fixed UHF radio at the "staging" area in the pits

Also don't forget that the radio is for listening to what is going on - not for recording engine sounds at the start line  I think that held up racing for about 20 minutes in 06....

Gary Turning off the left of the course should perhaps not be incouraged because of timing cables. This is correct is'nt it Pete?

Also Ben the return road marking has been a problem because of the lack of marking cones.
If everyone can pack a couple of cones or those newer style posts (Each tax payer is entitled to 2 per year  ) we will be able to make clearer return roads

Many of the newbies won't realise how many Kms of road we have to grade each season. The old Dodge does about 1000kms for the week.
