Setting up a Race Team?
I notice from the front page, there are Teams...
http://www.dlra.org.au/profiles/teams.htm
Is this an official thing or just a "pseudo team" only viewable from a website point of view? I couldn't see anything in the rules or entry application form for "team" and entering "team name".
I want to set up a team so my team mate gets some recognition for all the effort he has put in building the engine (I gather we'll have to sign him up as a DLRA member too).

The Southern California Timing Association (the official organization for the Bonneville Speed Week) is made up of a number of clubs.
Read this http://www.scta-bni.org/SCTA-NewWeb/SCTA_Clubs.html. It is a lot more formal and they also have a points system that comes out of this. (Something that we don't do.)
The DLRA is made up of individual members, but many of these members have banded together to run a vehicle at Lake Gairdner. These "Teams" are often very loosely based and are no more than a bunch of mates having a good time, if you look at the names of many of these teams you will see that there is a good bit of Aussie humor in there.
Just shoot me an email when your organized and I'm more than happy to promote you and your team, this is the whole reason for the teams page and the profiles pages.

Cool. Once we actually have the engine running I'll get on to the team name... most likely the very serious name of "Vespa Labs"
... just a thought. I think though if the DLRA did make it slightly more formal, e.g. you can enter a team name as well as the rider/driver on the entry form and list DLRA members of that team, then you'd get more funding i.e. more members for the same amount of runs. More people would particpate etc... this will be my first run though so I am only guessing if others would like the idea.

On this note it has been at the back of my mind to create a "Victorian Lakesters" division.
Really a social thing I guess but slightly more in that it has the contacts of all pursuing a like minded task (ie specialist build a particular type of car) residing in the state of Victoria.
We kind of know each other anyway through the club, but I think it would have some kind of opportunity for specific info sharing, working bees etc.
Nah... ok , all I really want is a cool jacket and some badges! Only those that build (or their girlfriends) are eligible.
It could also lead to some kind of competition like the States with points. I am not adverse to adding a little more to the bigger picture of the sport here in a friendly manner.
Sure would love to put Queensland in its place.

Queensland is right where it belongs (a long way from Victoria).
Our team went one step further and registered a Business Name.
If we ever get a financial sponsor (for the non-existent race car) and need to keep accounts the structure is there with a Aus business name number. This isn't the same a an ABN for a company structure. Do some accounting courses if you need to know the difference (I'm not going to pretend to understand any of it).
If you own a business you're in a better position to run the finances for a racing team. If you're like us - don't own a business or your work is not even remotely related to the auto industry - then a racng team is a black hole for money.
Gotta watch how far we go with awards and competitive points. One or two disputes and CAMS will stick it's head in.

As small as the "Victorian Lakesters Club" would be, I'm sure the "Assistant Starters Club - Qld" is smaller.
BTW - there is a BBQ to be held at the DLRA - Qld digs (Don's workshop / Skyline tuning centre) the week after the Vic meeting. Maybe the Victorian Lakesters could get on the Vespa and attend??
OH , my poor deluded Hedgash , Qld is in its right place , about , along long long way from the state of Mexico.(Nickname for Vic!). Be carefull what you wish for. You would no dought be aware of the shitfight i created at the '07 AGM about state divisions / clubs. I got shot down like a Mig flying over the Whitehouse . We carried on anyway , and are having gatherings on a regular basis now . Over 30 at the Dec BBQ . The main reason for this , was that we are so far away from the main body , and to get the members more involved (so they can turn up at Gairdner feeling involved , and not, just do nothing, towards the event). So far , so good . I like the name you've come up with!Go forth and do it! I'll buy a jacket (or be your girlfriend to get a free one ). I have also thought of a points type deal , but how would we work it? PJQ2 , isn't CAMS based in Vic ? We don't want NADA to do with them. And about that comment i saw on Landracing.com , I'm not cr cr cra crazy , I just have an incurable disease-SALT FEVER. also Dear DR Goggles , that can on a string had better not have marbles in it (remember tech inspection?) All the best guys , see ya'all on Sun. Cheers , Bob. #66 C/GCC.

Bob, I seem to remember when Joan Kerner was ruining Victoria, Queensland was overrun with cars with Vic number plates "Victoria - On the Move" (to Queensland!) Now we have traffic jams and drivers who turn right from the gutter!
Good, Fast, Cheap, pick any two!

Gees a lot of food for thought here .
1/ re position of Qld . Was put as far away from Vic as possible , but we keep on getting invaded by mexicans , easy to pick them , they the whiteskins laying on the beach at the Goldcoast trying to get sunburnt so they can show off to their mexican brethren what a great tan they got on hols .
2/ just cos you in business doesnt mean you can manage finances , mine was totally out of control til i got in touch with an accountant .
3/ um it still costs money wether you can build your own cars or not
4/ just get jackets and badges decals etc , first , then design team around that
5/ the main reason we had 30+ at our Dec bbq , was cos Mr Ellis said he WASN,T going to wear the infamous red dress again , and ppl wanted to meet the Nissan CEDRIC (cough cough )
6/ team name , ... still workin on that
