G'day All, Hope everyone survived Xmas. Just received a message from Plucka, who got home from the lake this afternoon. He tells me the surface is dry, hard ,flat & ready to race on. Lets hope it stays that way ! Pete. DLRA #6.

Just because you see the words South Australia, does not mean a flooded lake. (The sky is not falling)
This rainfall could never get to Lake Gairdner - refer to this map

I overlayed this map (http://www.dlra.org.au/images/basin-hi_grid.jpg) onto Google Earth
this map shows catchment boundaries for Australia;
- Lake Gairdner is part of the Western Plateau Division
- Moomba and Woomera are part of the Lake Eyre Division
at the very least, unless the water falls with in the Lake Gairdner Catchment is has absolutely no chance of ever getting into Lake Gairdner.

hi all, im back at work 250 km south west of coober pedy near commonwealth station on a mine site, a weather up date from here, no rain to speak of for january but had about 20-30mm yesterday but being as warm as it is all the puddles dried up over night leaving it very humid, BUT... its forcast for up to 200mm over the next 2 days (saturday/sunday) but who believes the weather men these days, at least i got to spend the night on the grader, grading the decline underground then cutting drains up the pit ramp while another chap moved dirt for dung walls incase it does rain, fingers crossed it doesnt rain as much as they predict. Graeme.

Have been watching the BOM site today, seemed to be a lot of rain to the east of Lake G, it was hard to say how much was actually falling on the lake, .

we are all watching , Nonning is the closest weather observation station , and they are showing 23mm in the last 24 hours and 2 mm for January

A few of us are going up to the lake in 4 weeks time, to do an official inspection of the surface & a decision will be made then on it's suitability. Until then, like Harky said "don't panic". Pete.DLRA #6.
