Ive had the bike riding for a few days but but something was not quite right.

Fitted my EGT gauges and found #2 cyl. was running 80 deg c colder that #1.

Stripped the carbs, did comp test as it has a new top end again, swapped ignition modules and coils over, still the same. :?

Did it all again today, fitted a spare set of cards, new plugs, still no change. :(

Thought i would pull the reed blocks out the check that the new reeds were sealing and found a small air leak the the base of the modified reed blocks so in with the standard

set and all is good. 10 deg c difference now.

Interesting thing is that that was the cyl that seized last year so was probably running a bit leaner than the other.

Wouldnt have picked it up without the EGT gauge.

So ive got HUGE jets in now and will work my way leaner till i get 1150 deg c and then start with the gearing. :D

Im a happy camper.

Some pics of the bike i didnt just ride around the block. 8)

If I had ridden it around the block I would have found out that there is pretty well F A below 9000 then there is no need for the front wheel for a while.

Fairing is off so it would fit into the caravan for the trip to the WLRA event.

It certainly looks the part Dave , just as well you didn't sneak around the block mate , the neighbors would'nt have the opportunity to phone crime stoppers, or maybe the pest control due to the HUGE swarm of bees in your area.
LSR is a rush rush ,,wait kinda sport, and one more years wait can become a habit we don't want.

Last time at the T&T I might have reved my old crank a bit too hard :(. Its the one that came with my spare engine), no idea of its age so its done well. Time for a crank rebuild. It was cheaper to go and buy a press than get someone to rebuild one. I tried to make a bearing remover first up.

Image

That didnt work so I had to buy one.

Image

Press in action. The right tools make it easy.

Image

Image

Press it back together and true it up. 0.05 mm. Just need to TIG it up to stop this one twisting and fit it in the engine + some new rings then all ready for you know what :)

Hey Dave
how tight was it to press together? Are they welded from the factory? I wouldn't weld it unless the pin is not as tight as it should be. It will be a bugger to pull apart next time
The flywheels look a funny colour-- maybe have been hot or maybe just the photo
I should put 250 cylinders on my bike and we could have an old vs new race off. lol
cheers Bones

Hey Bones,
Thats my old crank that I pulled apart to practice on. It had a pretty major blow up so yep the bottom end was hot. The crank that I pulled apart to use in my race bike had welded pins, I just got my little die grinder out and ground away the best part of the weld. It pushed apart pretty easily. Ive heard that they are a loose fit compared to some cranks, around 6 tons to assemble. The RGV weak spot is the crank if you want to rev them so welding is a fix or get a Kit crank that is factory assembled with some loctite. I couldnt do that as it took a while to get the run out down to spec. And I dont think they are available any more.
Yep get some 250 barrels for sure, the more the merrier. As for new mines an 89 model is that the old or new one? Thats the TZ your talking about? Fraid mine wouldnt stand a chance against one, I will be lucky to see high 60 RWHP. But the next one might be different, im going for a low comp high crank case volume and massive chambers like the GP cart guys are running. Might even go to the next capacity and have a set of barrels bored to 270cc, 2 mm over size. Ive got a set here that need replating so its only the boring that will add to the price. Time will tell. Ive also got a guy on the lookout for a RZ bottom end so I can build a BIG BLOCK yam. Im thinking of a 421 kit. then I need to build a frame for that to go in, some thing along the lines of what you have built. They are getting over 100 HP from those motors in the states ive heard.

CYA at the salt.

Bike looks really good Dave, well done and Clare, who's not from the Clare family. I couldn't get the player to work but I can only imagine what it sounds like now, and plus I'll hear it soon anyway on the salt.

Im after cases, gears and clutch. Everything apart from the barrels and heads really. The kit im looking at comes with a +4 mm stroked crank, barrels, pistons and heads.

Even an old RD would do, id run an electric water pump.
