Tailem Bend 6th November Test and Tune (TAG Timing)

Postby Montlhery » Mon Oct 03, 2011 9:20 pm

As a suggestion to the timing crew ,would it be feasible to run a test of the new TAG timing system at Tailem Bend test and tune days ? This would help the timing crew to become familiar with the system and iron out any problems so we are all set to go in March.

I wonder how it would go as the track if a bit short, I suppose it could be calibrated to any length, say the last 100 meters?

Who has the instruction book?

Dave as you say it doesn't really matter I presume what distance it is run over as long as the Timing guys can have a bit of practice with the new equipment and a "play around " with no pressure as it is a practice day . We can compare notes from GPS speeds if need be .

Im not 100% sure on how it works but think it takes the average speed from when you break the first beam to when you break the second one. So it will differ from our GPS readings. But that dosnt change the fact that it would be a good practice run for the timing system and those that are to operate it.

Is there still going to be a timing gear test at Xmass time at the lake?

As far as I know the timing equipment (new and old) is in the custody of Stan Suchodolskiy (Real Stan) and probably is stored in the Castlemaine region.

The timing equipment is in Castlemaine, not really worth bringing it over here for a few hours. Besides which, we cannot time runs for insurance reasons. Pete . DLRA #06.

Thanks for the input Pete, As Tailem Bend would be "Test and Tune only" the timing would not be used. Only as a test of the equipment ie to make sure the Timing crew are comfortable with the new system and to make sure bikes break the beam etc . If Victorian members are coming over they maybe able to bring equipment and Stan ? This is only a suggestion, as I would hate to have a glitch up at the salt when we could have ironed out any bugs with no pressure.
