I'm bringing Alex's bike with a honda rs125, the one in the last few photos.
It ran 125 in a standard chassis at Gairdner.
Gotta go 135 at BUB and SCTA for a record----- maybe
I'll see you at El Mirage after BUB, there will be a bunch of Aussies there

Time for an update
I've been building a bussa for the drags-- now to be converted to a salt racer.
My mate is going to do all the bodywork. the plan is to not use any standard fairings.
We have built a water tank so we can not have any air going through the bike, it holds 20 liters


Started the weslake the other night, was easier than I thought
Borrowed a set of starting rollers off a mate- makes thigs really easy - fired straight up.
Just have to sort out the oil return.

Iv'e built a cooling tank for the postie, in readyness for its future APS life, after trolling Stainless' site, found this very helpfull when working out the capacity of the tank (5 Ltrs) , which sits under the swingarm.

The 500 starts and runs good,but vibrates like hell. It shakes the fuel out of the tickler on the remote bowl and all
the tools vibrated off the bench.
I'll have to go back to the guy who did the crank for me to see what balance factor he used.
I have read that thread before and from there and talking to a friend with 600 in a streamliner car came up with 20 L
The 250 looks good-- will it be ready for March?

Bones, Great to hear it started but remember its a single. Single is another word for vibration. The Wessie in the Norton breaks brackets on a regular basis and has broken the rear fender. I have a rubber pad on the sidecar to rest my head during a run. When I'm waiting to run I have to keep my head off the pad otherwise I'm looking at four starters.

Sorry we didn't catch up at El Mirage.
I didn't come becuse you need 2 people , the other guys stayed home to work on their bikes
If you haven't heard I am the new weslake parts guy-- I bought all Dave's parts.
I don't think I could even hang onto the bars at speed at the moment-- they seem to be 2'' dia.
It was balanced at 40%, same as late laydowns. But maybe my angle is different
Have to work out the oil scavenge from the case and drain the head. I know a guy in town who has run one as a laydown-- he gets lots of phone calls.

The last time I spoke to Dave was at Bonneville. He wanted me to buy his Weslake stuff. But Bonneville ate up my money so I passed. Are you going to be back here anytime soon?

Been sorting some other issues with the weslake, but the vibration needs to be fixed.
Going to rebalance to 48%- was 55% to see if it makes any difference.
I will fill the handlebars with lead and maybe fit a head steady.
Hope I can change it enough to hold onto it

The vibration is curious. Singles shake but not as bad as you describe. I don't have a head steady on either of mine. Both are mounted in 3/8" plate. On the Norton I put a 1/2" rod through the center stand mount lugs for additional support. If you look at the bottom of the photo below the oil feed line you can see it.

On the sidecar the bottom engine mounts are bolted to two 1" sq. stringers that run between the crossmembers. The bottom gearbox mount is bolted to the same stringers and the top mount is on 3/8" plate The front mount is much like the Norton. Its not in the photo but from the top of the rear plate I run a tubular strut to the rear frame for more support. Maybe its overkill but better than having it fall apart in the middle of a run. I'm really curious to see what is the cause. I've had single all my life but none of them never shook that bad. Or maybe I'm just used to it.

A new direction--- for a wile
The weslake has got the better of me for now.
I can't stop it burning oil. It's like a loaded up 3 cylinder kawasaki that never clears up. It will need more work and maybe a scavenge pump.
The downdraft lectron with amal float bowl works well. After a rebalance the fuel is not vibrating out of the floatbowl . It runs nicely with a needle
which should be too lean by a long way but the float height is extremly adjustable and I think the float height has compensated for the needle
So, the engine has been banished to the storage shed and a yamaha 350 is in it's place.
I don't want to be without a ride , so I put in an engine which needs no development.
I will return to the weslake.
The engine is in. Turned the cylinder around ( must remember to turn the pistons) and made the pipes mounted the radiator.
Should be able to get it running in a few weeks.




The 80/125 is getting a birthday and a bit more bodywork. If we run the 125 I hope it will go 130

Rod has been buisy. The seat is shaped and glassing has begun.
I've worked out why it's taken so long to get to this.--- sitting, looking and pondering doesn't work nearly as well without alcohol.
Rod doesn't drink---- but he might after this.
