Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the info
We were thinking of using the Buckleboo Road from Kimba. We're driving an early WRX.
Now you've got us rethinking about the Ceduna to Wirrula option.
See you there!
Ta

Mark

Coming from W.A.

Have your last night in Ceduna, fuel up food etc.
Ceduna to Wirrulla 70 km turn of follow dirt road signposted Hiltaba Homestead intersection at 27km turn right Hiltaba to Iron Knob road 73km to intersection old homestead ruins, Pondanna Ruins take a photo and turn right 16km to old wagon go straight couple of ks cross a small wooden bridge then keep a lookout for intersection/road to left almost have to look back to see it,should be DLRA sign this is the road to the lake.
You can also go in from Minnipa this road goes through Gawler National Park ok if dry but roads are rivers if heavy rain.
Kimba, this road is the Buckleboo road, it was wide an we sat on 100ks for the first 40/50 ks,at approx 106km turn of to the right i think its sign posted Mt ive st this road is aTRACK at best but take your time no worries 15 km to wagon couple of ks small bridge keep a lookout for DLRA sign/road on left.
Have used all these roads over the years,as well as Iron Knob road, there usually in better condition because of less traffic and nice to get of the main road.
Remember your in the outback take your time,be prepaired, and enjoy the ride.

See ya at the lake.[/quote]

Speed Week is cancelled, check Bob Ellis's post in this section of the Forum. I've rung around to confirm, it's definitely off again. :?

Yes it's for real, apparently there are large potholes in the salt with only a thin crust over them, the salt at the edges is thin and there is more rain forecast for the Wednesday.

It's 10:30PM up here at Mt Ive on a super slow WiFi connection but hopefully these photos will show what we have found today:
200mm of water at the ramp and continuing out to the track area.
Image
Irregular patches all over the area that when you ground your bare foot into revealed red to black mud between 25 to 50mm deep!!
Image
The salt crust surrounding the patches of mud could easily be lifted up as it was only 5 to 10mm thick.
Mud that was under thin the salt crust.

I give up this connection is too frickin slow

Folks,

To add to Cookey's photos, here is the aerial view taken at the same time as the lake inspection on 9th March. As you can see, there is still a huge amount of water lying there.
I will be putting together another video, but for some reason I just can't find the motivation this time around.......
