Lake Omeo, next to Benambra in East Gippsland is the likely candidate,

Corangamite near Camperdown/Colac probably isn't suitable
http://maps.google.com.au/maps?oe=utf-8 ... CBIQ_AUoAg

It's been a while since I went to Benambra, but I seem to remember it's the kind of road that will make towing a vehicle pretty tough, either side of six hours ( in a car)from Melbourne through Wangaratta or Bairnsdale, still , it's 1250ks to Gairdner......

hmmmmmmm, just remembering an early near death experience in a car on a sandy road near Omeo  ..............some other time.

Lake Omeo was discussed at the last club meeting. I am pretty sure they said it was 4.8km long. Thats long enough for me.
Apparently all the locals, council etc. are all for an event there.

That's fine for plenty of people, but vehicles that rely on their aero and not brute power haven't got enough to top out....
We were still accelerating at the five mile in 2010, we've got more power now but we're gearing up so we will only be accelerating a little quicker .......plus with this sort of clearance....
Image

we'll need to pick her up a bit if we're going to run on the dirt. When we ran at Mangalore in 07 we found that although it's a runway there were transitions between slabs and some of the slabs themselves were rough as... I felt like I'd been kicked up the arse non-stop for a month....at one point the Reverend went past and the car was six inches in the air.... on the salt she's smooth as , but anywhere else it's an experience

BUT, that's just us.

The word is that there is a longer racing surface and shut-down than is available at El Mirage and there are records over 300mph at El-mo , no reason it can't happen at Ome-o.........

According to members who've been for a look, it is hard clay with some sparse and patchy vegetation. Sometimes they let cattle graze on it. It needs a bit of preparation and we have to watch out for the hairy anchor plants but other than that it seems good. There was a thread on the forum with all this info and plenty more but I can't find it now. Have a look on Google for Benambra for the satellite view.

Cheers

About 20 kms between Omeo and Benambra where Lake Omeo is, and a huge rain shadow
Apparently L Omeo only had about 25mm , and is only wet in the very bottom corner

Road tires or slicks , knobbys would eat up the track too fast and there speed rating it too low
I have run 201 at the El Mirage 1.3 mile track on trackday tires , there is no cruising out , its a long drag race , go as hard as you can as soon as you can and hang on

Sorry about the turf tyre comment, it was tongue in cheek. Just trying to brighten up the inner petrol head!
