and stock weight for an XJS is around the 1780kg mark and on top of Gaz's list the glass has been removed and 3inches of roof. There's a stainless belly pan, no heater, no AC,

OK - no ballast - that takes 240kg out of it. That would mean 1660 kgs...

Nope - I'll go with stock weight 1780kg

Ok, I will go with 1,650kg. When I look at the pile of stuff I have left over it has to be at least that. I believe the corner scales left QLD yesterday so you only have a couple of days to get your guesses in! Now if I was offering a free drive to the winner I am sure I would crash the server, but I AM NOT.

Sorry Gaz
your not accounting for all the red ant holes you filled. That will add at least 150. :?

That's right! I did use 3 x 3ltr tins of bog. But how much ended up back on the floor? That is the burning question. Scales should be delivered tomorrow.

Probably not. I have another 200kg of lead shot coming down from QLD on Monday which I will use in the chassiss rails and possibly even the rear crossmember near the rear bumper bar. I know it is a long way past the rear axle and above the centreline of the diff but I estimate it will only be 40 or 50 kg worth. If I am going to get the car to 2,200kg with a 52%/48% weight distribution I need to look at every option. There is not a lot of space to safely strap down that much ballast. Besides, it still has to look good and lead is such a dreary colour!

Are you also shifting weight bias to the LH side to counter torque reaction?

Pre weigh a series of weights before you tie the scales up under the car. Having some known weights prepared is handy. Water in gerry cans is easy.

The leverage advantage/disadvantage works both ways. It take less weight to adjust bias if its further away from centre so use these areas last for fine tuning.

This is a rough idea of what adding 200kg in the positions required to balance the AU looks like. The rail lines are 16kg each and the rhs are all full of lead. All this I hope to mount under the tray in about those positions. That will get our total to 2050kg

Whenyou hover over image in photobucket it will give you several options for linking to the image, one of these is called IMG CODE, select this and you can paste straight into your post. Looks like this
Code: Select all

The one you are selecting is HTML CODE this is used to insert the image into a html document.

Check your album settings in Photobucket, there is an option to display different types of link code.
To do this;
Go up to where your name is (top right ) and click on the triangle (arrow) next to your name,
you should see a drop down box appear, select "AccountSettings",
page will change, see the second (lighter blue menu bar, and select Album Settings,
page will change, now tick the box for IMG CODE,
Go to the bottom of the page and select save.
Now got back to you album and you should see the IMG code when you hover over an image.

Hope this helps
Greg

Sounds like Chris got a call from Gaz.

Fighting weight is 1440kg which means that Gaz won even though he was too high in his estimate! A hollow victory. This weight is without ballast being fitted. The ballast adds about another 240kg + the extra that Gaz just got. That'll bring it up to 1680kg but we'll check it via the scales.

I'll post a photo tomorrow of the scales final read out but the balance looks good as well.

Gaz said that winning the contest didn't mean a drive!!!

Here's the photo he sent last night

Image

Weird - I saved the photo right way up and it reverts for the forum..... there's not much in it. Half a kilo at the front from right to left and 6.5kg at the rear and the front to rear distribution is close as well. He was aiming for 52-48 or 51-49. Not bad. I'll find out today if this was with the driver installed with his gear on??

and here's a photo of him loading the ballast into the sill. Each bar weighs around 120kg. The bars are still a little crispy looking from the foundry where they melted the lead down into the tube.
