I got a chance to do the final testing on a new Billet Clutch from The Tuning Works (UK) for RGV/RS 250 Engines.

Image Image

It is lighter than the stock unit and this will reduce the load on the Crank bearings at sustained high RPM. All fitted and will be off to the Drags next week to test it out  .

Good luck at the drags Pete, show em what a smelly 2 stroke can do. :D

Hope the new clutch performs as good as it looks. Pitty you probably wont get to run it at the Tailem Bend Test & Tune as not enough people have put their hands up to attend as yet.

Come on people not too late.

The engine just hits a wall at 10000rpm should rev to 12000 tried changing both the Jetting and Ignition.

I am only left with too much Compression for the Standard porting. So I've fitted the Lower Compression Insert heads 11.5:1. They are Modified Stock Heads with Billet Inserts.

Hey Tiny

I knew I was missing something, and I just thought it was a glitch in the polarity of the vortex within my Parallel Universe, what I needed all along was some good old fashioned Magic

Hemi Heads Dave,

Combustion chamber volume: 11.9cc

Compression ratio: 11.5 : 1

Squish ground clearance: 0.8mm

Squish angle: 2.5°

Squish area: 40%

Sparkplug hole ground clearance: 10.3mm

Base gasket thickness: 0.5mm (standard)

This is the lower Comp spec.

Yeah Grum the RGV does not like too much advance at high rpm.

I originally programmed in the Suzuki race kit curve and it has a lot of advance across the whole rev range.
but I have since learn't that it was developed to work with advanced port timing/ raised compression/race pipes and Avgas.
The Kit set up will give me "mid range" but can stop over rev if the port timing is not advanced enough.

So I am going back to a closer to stock comp ratio to go with the std port timing and now have a few different ignition curves I can try when I go back on the Dyno next week. :D

Finally got a good clean Tune up (had a RPM logging issue)

EGTs max at L 1107F R 1103F so still safe.

Hey Pete, nice curve and with a bit of tuning you might get the magic 80 rwhp. What gear was that run in?

So thats 1/4 litre. 78 X 4 = 312 HP per litre. Not bad for naturally aspirated.

Long live the 2 smokers.

Dave

That's 4th gear, it is all relative I got 63hp with Stock Engine, Ignition and Gutted Pipes small re jet.

Been going round in circles but it finally got there.I think the Sunoco Supreme Fuel is the Magic ingredient.

I am running the 23D10 Kit Ignition Curve up until 9000rpm then took timing out of it and it works a treat.

Hey Pete, same dyno? If so thats a good improvement. No reason for it to seize, plenty of oil being pumped through.

Dynojet add the fudge factor to the result unless you ask for the true rear wheel, without it you need to remove 25% of the number stated.

There was a good article at http://www.hotrod.com/thehistoryof/113_ ... ewall.html but for some reason it has dissappeared - here's what I kept when it was about

The Story Behind the Dynojet Chassis Dyno - The Truth Meter

"Dynojet's final number-fudge was arbitrarily based on a number from the most powerful road-going motorcycle of the time, the '85 1,200cc Yamaha VMax. The VMax had 145 advertised factory horsepower, which was far above the raw 90hp number spit out by the formula. Meanwhile, existing aftermarket torque-cell engine dynamometers delivered numbers that clustered around 120. Always a pragmatist, Dobeck finally ordered his Chief Engineer to doctor the math so that the Dynojet 100 measured 120 hp for a stock VMax. And that was that: For once and forever, the power of everything else in the world would be relative to the '85 Yamaha VMax and a fudged imaginary number."

If you can work out the true rear wheel power you can better guess top speed :)

Hey Paul, The best thing to do is use the same Dyno to do a before and after run. Then you get a % upgrade. So thats a 24% increase? Nice in anyone's books. (Thats IF its the same dyno)
