Volunteers - Timing van
I was just checking out the volunteers register and there are still spots available to help out in the timing van. Clare Bolger has put her name on the list and I know Dennis Campbell and Eric Smith will be there as well but happy to hear from anyone who wants to spend a half day out there and is computer literate.

Re: Volunteers - Timing van
I have put myself down for Wednesday afternoon. I can probably do another shift if required.

Hi there, I'm a just-joined-up member (I forgot my member number but...) and computer literate.
I'm more than happy to do a stint at timing. Put me down on the register mate, I'll be there.
Tom Fieldhouse.

BTW - The timing gear is being sent to Brisbane for us to do a dry run and training session. So any interested parties please PM me.

We had a training session today with the timing gear, very successful, we got it to work! Bob Ellis, Matt Saunders and Dennis Campbell all came over and had a play. The gear was in my garage the clockwork version of Donald Campbell's Bluebird got through the traps at 4 km per hour. Dennis took photos... We'll do another test during the week and next weekend and then I'll ship the gear back. We'll be ready to go to the lake! A big thanks to Cookey who was on the phone with Bob giving advice!

Good to hear it all went well.

Re: Volunteers - Timing van
Hey Lynchy, I accidentally double booked myself for Wednesday afternoon (I'm not a "morning person" ). I'm booked as timers assistant and also race directors assistant. I guess Charlie will have lots of helpers, so can you scrub the race directors assistant off the calendar for me? My member number is 1241, but it says 1256 in the calendar entry (my mistake, new number ).
Thanks John.
Cheers,

Re: Volunteers - Timing van
Hey Greg!
If you find yourself in a pinch I will be there to help. I am coming to Lake Gairdner on Friday or Saturday and plan on spending most of the week with the DRLA. I am very keen to see how the Tag wireless system is working and what limitations it has. We are looking into constructing a system of our own but the logistics of trying to do this with 500 vehicles at the SCTA Speed Week creates some real issues. Make sure that the aircon is working in the timing van! I know good luck on that one.... We have it good at Bonneville.

G'Day Scott,
That's great news. Paul Lynch our new Chief Timer will be only too pleased to show you around.
I was just talking to our supplier yesterday and we will have some new equipment for evaluation as well.
Air Con? Yes, the door opens and closes on the timing van.

I'll put you down as a volunteer for the week then!!! It will be great to have you out on our lake and we will be more than happy to run you through the Tag system as it currently stands plus our plans for it down the track. I might have met you a few years back in 2010 when we went to Bville - we came out to the timing van for a bit of a look see and meet the team out there + had the privilege of watching Norm Hardinge (one of our guys) almost crack 200 in the run preceding his 200mph run. I'll be on salt on the friday before the event right through to the end. Look out for a bright green blown XJS Jag as I'll be somewhere near it or the timing van.

Alright guys it will be great seeing you again and meeting you if not. I do think that we have met Paul and it will be good to get reacquainted. I will look for the Jag. I even talked a buddy of mine from Brisbane into coming down and staying a few days, maybe we can get him into the mix. I have been checking the weather and so far it looks good. Do you have a pre-trip team that will check the lakebed conditions and report back? Maybe the Mt. Ive proprietors? In any event I am sure it will be a great meet. I can smell the speed already.
I only dread the flight.....
