WA rookie team have a Hudson Terraplane

Post by Gus »

Well a few of you have got wind of us and I thought it might be best to start a build diary so we can get some help a as we go. Ive read the entire 40+ pages of the shaguar, and i can only hope it doesn't take us the 4 plus years to get close to racing as it did Gaz. We have 3 main financial team members John, Darren and myself. There is a few other lads that i know will help out as well.

As it stands we have a 1936 Hudson Terraplane that some bloke got halfway through turning into a hot rod. We have a small block chevy that will see us through for the first run. And a lot of work

Classy looking car.

My new boss has got one. A standad one and a buck board? He wants me to do some work on the buck board like fit the LS1 and Ford Fairlane rear end as well as the Mitsy L300 front end.

I told him that its going to be a 150 MPH car, he looked a bit stunned.

Damn Dave... we're gonna have competition already????? I thought we had a one off.

Just an update the car has been moved to the build shop and and the chevy in it has been fired up for the first time in 7 years, John has taken it for a spin and even managed a little skid he tells me. Sad news is the diff in it is a GM with the C clips. so that's got to go. Got a bunch of stuff with the car to sell off so well get into that this week and hash out a build plan.

Well we have started. VF commodore back end getting grafted in first. Our main focus at the moment is to get the altitude down and squeeze a T56 in. Then well have a go at getting the body back on.

You'll need more beer to finish that job.

Yes its only happens when John's in it however. Hes the most mature of our crew, thats if we go by birth certificates anyway.

Having fun chasing parts all week, got a few key items. Bell housing, seat ect. just looking for the best deal on a t56 box now. Also if anyone has some drop spindles wed be interested.

After a few more beers. The diff is in and the t65 gearbox as well. Tail shaft loop sorted. Bit more welding and gusseting on the chassis to happen yet.

Tail-shaft is the next job on the agenda for John and Darren and thats basically the drive line sorted. We were planing on just running rear brakes, anyone have any opinions about that?? And we have a chute laying around so we thought we would put that on as well for plan b.

Roll cage pipe ordered today and sheet metal to fill in the gaps in the floor, boot and firewall.

Lowered springs and spindles are on the shopping list for next week. The power-plant will be my next job when i get back from my next swing at work.

Oh and a piece of the hudson made it to a car show on the weekend, Our friends at Perth hydro graphics pinched a couple bits off us while we dont need them and worked there magic on them for part of their display. So the hood of the Hudson now has a very split personality.

Havent found anything in the rules about suicide doors. We have 4 of them. Is there anything we should know? We were thinking we could incorporate them into an air brake system or something.
