Bob

If you need a hand at the last minute I'm just up the road!!

Nah - there really is no way that the Jag will be ready in time for March. I've told Gary that the revised deadline for having it ready will be November this year and Mid December at the latest. There really is still a s@#$load to do.

Hey - something Gaz mentioned yesterday, he managed to get his hands on a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), these are used in situations where there is fire/smoke and used to breath while getting the hell out of wherever you are. He was thinking of buying a helmet with a breathing tube attached and setting the car up so that if he popped the extinguishers it activated the SCBA. It contains air not Oxygen and is good for 30 minutes, the flow is regulated. He thought it would be useful as he will have seperate extinguishers for the cabin as well as the engine bay and bearing in mind what happened to Rod last year. Would this be OK with scrutineering?

Thats truely inspirational Bob and thank Bruce for me, I think "Leave it till the last minute" means I can take a week off.

Do you blokes all realise that this thread is all a fraud anyway as there is nothing valuable on a Commodore
Goggles should refund all the 7000plus punters who have clicked on this thead their admission because I think we've been had. :)

 it's all in a name Christoffle  we're at it today and tomorrow......I'm broke and I need a holiday....the only thing I know for sure right now is I won't be rich or kicking back anytime soon  , nor most likely in the long run.........I saw a one armed man the other day with crabs AND nits and I thought " you lucky bastard , I wish I had some time off like you"..... I was sitting down at the time , suddenly I realised my backside was hurting 'cause it wasn't used to it.........FMD and I still can't swear the car will make it to SW07.....................................
...few understand what I'm trying to do , but they vastly outnumber those who understand why..

Chris

I'll give you a call!

BTW - Saw one of Brocky's Dunnydores for sale in the Just Cars for just under $500k - Bathurst winner in 1980 or 81 - can't remember/don't care - It was the year that Dicky did him a favour by hitting the rock...

I guess what is interesting is:

1/ That someone thinks that it's worth it - It's a Commodore!
2/ A Bathurst Phase 3 (non winning) sold recently for just under a million
3/ That someone thinks that it's worth it - It's a Commodore!
3/ The rock that Dicky hit is insured for more!!
4/ That someone thinks that it's worth it - It's a Commodore!

As Goggles says:

"anyone for worms? I've just opened a can!"

Jesus Christ!

You guy are an inspiration. That's pretty awesome.

I just waded through 14 pages of posts and pics in one sitting and I've got to say that I'm fairly impressed. I must admit there were times when I thought "Oh my god, what is this thing going to look like at the end?" but it all come up looking pretty good in the end.

As you no doubt remember i've got a bit of a passion for the little V6 so I'm keen to see how this thing goes but I couldn't help thinking how I would mind doing something like that myself. Mechanical bits, I've got a million of them and there a V6 currently in the shed that pumps out around 450hp at the flywheel. Find a space for the turbo and intercooler might be a problem though. :D

I noticed what you did with the manifold. I thought I might post a pic for you of a manifold I did for my VN a few year back. It cost me $700 in parts and labour but it was a sweet system.

The trumpets worked quite well and the VN ran 13.83sec down the quarter naturally aspirated.

What throttle body are you guys using?

Thanks for the positive comments...

Yep, you have been down the same track with chopping the manifold. DrG chopped ours and slapped the old throttle body on top as we ran out of room on the end.

I'm glad to hear yours worked so well, I was concerned about us stuffing up flow through the plenum... yours looks great!

We were thinking of sticking another vn throttle body on it.

If that 450hp motor is just sitting around doing nothing maybe we could borrow it for a week or so...?

You do know that the VN V8 Throttle body (actually VN-VS V8) and the VN V6 throttle body share the same bolt pattern don't you? Except that the V6 is 60mm and the V8 is 65mm - there is an instant performance improvement in fitting the V8 throttle body. Two should work well.

What I did was got three single 45mm throttle bodies from DC&O in Sydney. They made up a flat aluminium plate for me with the TB's attached and shaved the top off the manifold for me. I then took the two pieces off to an aluminium welder and had them stuck together. It turned out pretty good but the 45's were a bit small so I went and traded them in to 50mm ones that use the same bolt pattern.

I've also got a 3/71 GMC blower sitting here. :)

Usually that's one of the first things I tell guys - V8 throttle body it's worth 2 tenths over the quarter.

There's not much you can do to screw up the original manifold design, it's pretty screwed up already. Just get that air in, feed it fuel and get it out again. A simple street port job will unleash alot of power too. I gained 4-tenths over the quarter just through the use of ported heads. And change your standard valve springs if they are standard because they will lay over at around 5600-5700rpm.
