Motorcycle cooling specialists in Melbourne?
Can anyone recommend a Motorcycle cooling specialist in Melbourne?
I need a complete optimal set-up... smallest radiator possible, electric pump and electric fan with temp control to suit a 210-250cc watercooled 2-stroke head, all to fit nicely somewhere in a Vespa frame (ideally low down at the front).
I'd like to price up a new set-up before deciding to faff around with cobbling together bits + I'd rather spend the money than risk killing a one-off engine.

Hi Paul
have you considered a "total loss system" , tanks with baffling and no radiator....the water will give a little ballast and you will be better able to fine tune what you need by doing the maths rather than estimating how much heat loss the radiator will give you....

we were going to cobble together anything for the race and did consider total loss... however the scooter is still registered, so we are now after something that can handle normal road use (hence a fan) and being taken out to a race track.

Ask Norm at Aussie desert coolers first,keep it in the family
if he can't help on somethinhg that size then Rod at Bike rads in Dandenong has done some nice work for me on custom cooling systems (intercoolers in my case)
Davies Craig EBP would have to be one of the best small pumps for long term use...not cheap like some marine stuff but will last better.

my concern is the whole set-up... However the Davies Craig EBP was something I was itching to buy, but holding back in case it wouldn't cut the mustard.
You've convinced me, I'll go an EBP ($175 seems to be the cheapest I could find) and hook up various radiator bits I have lying around. I also have a water temp gauge, so I can keep an eye on how things behave.
Once I know the size that seems to work normal running, I'll work on the stationary cooling and the Sherco option mentioned looks like it should do that very nicely too.

It's now an evolving project
The Davies Craig EBP uses only 1A when running. PX electrics are all gone and are now Yamaha DT 175 (which is probably just as bad). I think we'll be replacing the electrics again, so mechanically fitting a pump won't fit into the "grand plan", untill we have the final flyhweel and then that set-up should pump out enough juice for the electric pump anyway.
For now an electric pump running off a battery will do and the very least it will tell us how much fluid a mechanical one needs to be shifting. If it doesn't work I can ebay it...
I gather you know we got out on the road. We had to get the pulser coil rewound backwards and turn the flywheel 90 degrees ... but it flies without even trying! Didn't get it out of first... fun, fun, fun!

good to know Aussie Desert Coolers do bike flavoured radiators.
I also have a Davies Craig dual thermostat control to go with the booster. The idea is that I have a constant trickle flow and full flow kicks in when it needs to.
The scoot is up on the lift and I have hooked up an AC power supply to simulate the stator voltage. Now it is just a matter of wiring it all up and testing it out... and while I'm at it some custom streamline lights
