2008 engine build

Postby BONES » Tue Dec 30, 2008 10:29 am

Nice job Tiny. I'll look forward to hearing it screeeem down tht salt at over13000 rpm. What type of fuel pump are you useing ? If you use a pump from a late model bike with carbs you will not need a pressure regulator. When I used a facet pump on the sidecar I set it up with a return to the tank which is restricted to change pressure. To check the pressure a T in the return and set for 18'' above the carb.
cheers Bones

Bones, the pump is a "wotyagot" facet automotive (NZ) with a holley regulator (adjustable) behind it, I had done what you suggested and run a Tee in the line, returning to the tank, and it seems to work.
The problem in in the fuel valve (needle and seat) orifice size, which it 3.5mm, totally unsuitable for a pump setup, I see Mikuni list a 1.5 fuel jet, which would "probably" work, but @ $50,,I recon I'll stick with the setup I have for now.

Well, test ride #1 happened as planned this morning, complete with midrange stutter, but a main jet drop helped, so much in fact, she pulled 10g in 4th (the top gear of choice, with a slight overdrive 5th left to "see") which , according to the tach, and gear ratios, is a bees donga over 70 MPH !
Video evidence will be posted when the naked hoop jump is edited out
Ill take a close peek at the workin's before test #2, then try a needle drop, and maybe down to a 150 main, when I can bludge one from fraze.

Thanks Rocket,,I still have to address the mid range jetting, and adjust the belt idler to pull the belt over a tad, replace the temp gear linkage (alloy) with some stainless tubing, and finish the bodywork, time permitting.

Test #2 was a success :D the shortened meggy cone has shifted the power up in the rev range nicely, "short" changed @ 11g and it still wanted more, so slipped into top (.92 \ 1 overdrive) and still accelerated , not briskly,,but it was pulling 10g when I run out of road,,,,,,82 mph :D :D :D :D :D
The smell of R-30 laced Methanol wafted thru the hills, almost transporting me to lake G for a while 8)
