Figured the turf tires were tongue in cheek but wanted no doubt about what to run or we will get someone turn up with knobbys and have to turn them away
Probably going to need some addiems to the rules for this and qld claypan , but to start with it will have to be common sense and see what the needs realy are

Has there been any reports of the lake drying in the last week or has it got deeper? I know I am crazy but I live in hope.

I unfortunately think it's more than just the water, that is the problem, but I too would be interested

Norm Bradshaw was in SA on work and drove out to the lake on Saturday March 24th and found the salt good condition and almost ready to race.
The salt at the ramp was very thin, the dirt was still moist. out on the track was mainly dry with a couple of patches of water.

Looks promising if we can got past the ramp.

What distance is the ramp section normally a problem.

One of the companies I deal with via work has a plastic matting that we use for drilling rig access roads and worksites, will carry a road train over fairly ordinary ground, google Durabase matting.

I dont know if they have any available in SA, will find out tomorrow.

The club has some matting but im not as heavy duty as that, or as heavy.



It worked well in 2010 but buy the end of the event the ground was getting soggy underneath it.

Perhaps we need to make it double thickness closer to the land as that is where it was the soggiest (is that a word?) and not go put as far. Or maybe move the matting each day

so as not to do as much damage.

Lake traffic will need to be kept to a minimum.

This is possibly (with due respect) possibly the way the club should have gone when selecting the matting as there obviously a lot of difference in the products.
We have and still continue to work in what I believe to be in the right direction to ensure the future of our passion.

At least when an upgrade is needed then we are aware of possible options.

That stuff looks great but we still need to be able to carry it or have some way to lay and retrieve it.

Here's a clip of what tourists do when they go to Lake Gairdner.
When I saw the title snapshot I wondered what I was going to see, but it's definately rated G.
More importantly this was taken on the Friday 24/08/2012 and shows the condition at the lake.
It looks to be in very good condition with very little surface water.

These guys must have stayed at Mt. Ive, I wonder if the white gumboots were supplied or they brought their own...

PS How did I find this? I have some automated searches set up in Google which sends me an email whenever it finds a hit.
PPS Whilst I was on youtube I thought I'd just check out what other videos are there for Lake Gairdner and there is a few, so do yourself a favour and check them out. Also I found that Australia has another Lake Gairdner!! in Tasmania of all places. I don't think this one gets dry to often
