Lake Perkolilli Red Dust Revival 2019

Post by gacocks »

Hi All
By now you will have probably heard that we had a very successful Lake Perkolilli Red Dust Revival event in September. Unlike 2014, it was not rained out and we had a great time. We've decided to publish a photographic book of the event. Perth photographer Sharon Smith spent a week camping at the clay pan to capture the highs and lows of the Red Dust Revival. With other contributing photographers, I think that the Lake Perkolilli Red Dust Revival book is a stunning record of a unique event.
The aim of the Red Dust Revival was to capture the essence of early outback motor racing which was rough and ready, but spectacular, when natural dirt surfaces were used rather than modern pavements.
More than 100 competitors brought pre-war cars and motorcycles to Perkolilli from all over Australia and from as far away as the United Kingdom. They kicked up great clouds of dust as they roared around the 4.25km circuit, and it made for a sensational visual event. Sharon’s images of the Red Dust Revival are stunning with the red dust of the track contrasting with the big blue sky of outback Australia and vintage racers.
Sharon Smith is one of Western Australia’s most experienced photojournalists having spent 27 years at The West Australian newspaper before striking out on her own. The Red Dust Revival was her first big job as a freelance photographer.
Her images in this book have been complemented by several other photographers including Nicole Lothe, Des Lewis, Ken Sharpe, Casey Wood and James Nicholls.
If anyone would like a copy, you can pre-order now. The Lake Perkolilli Red Dust Revival 2019 Book is limited to just 500 copies. It is a 208 page large format coffee table book with more than 350 photographs. It can be ordered at www.motoringpast.com.au.
All the best
