When I was over there in 09, cuppla dudes pitted next to us were running what thay called a "Michigan Mountain Motor" (Harley type), that thing shook the earth on every stroke :D

And there is two of them Ronny ...... Cubic Inches applies to Bikes as well

3000 APS Battle Chris Rivas vs Hiro Koiso

Unfortunately Hiro went down report says

"Unthinkable happened during run on 8/31. Front end component failure led the bike to crash at well over 200mph.
We had ambulance trip to SLC and made it back on the salt in same day with concussion and few broken fingers."

"We didn't get record this time but would like congratulate Team Chris Rivas for new record - they beat us by .008mph. That's a race!"

Glad to here he is ok ....

I took off early from Bonneville and wanted to update folks on how Black Art Racing did this year. The numbers mentioned in this update are from memory, so..... Greg, Kim, and Jim all claimed records on the same bike changing classes as they jumped on the ride. Greg Watters set a new record on the Turbo Busa, with a 244 mph record, and claimed the fastest bike at the event with a 246 mph. Kim Krebs set a new record at 241 mph on the Turbo Busa as well doing a 240 & 244mph. Jim Higgins set a new record on the Turbo Busa with all the fairings removed (naked) and claimed the record at 217 mph, doing a 211 & 224mph. Kim Krebs took the 750 Turbo over 220 mph, with smoke out breather at the finish... and turned out during her return run. The 600 turbo was not initially responding to tuning, and wouldn't get out of it's own way running 140 - 150 mph runs. However it was discovered that adding more boost and taking some timing out of it when over 20 lb of boost was the slap that woke the bitch up. Last I heard Greg did a run over 180 mph spinning the entire way, but still short of the expectations to run over 200 mph.
Black Art Racing is now on the way to the Colorado Mile to kick some ass and show them how it's done.
Keep the shiney side up........

Thay had trouble pulling up last year at the Colorado mile,, Greg ran fastest speed there last year, so with better brakes and experience, fingers crossed, we should see big speeds (safe) this year,, "Go the Aussies" :D

Brakes worked better for a couple of runs Ronnie ,then started showing signs of overheating .
We did pretty much same speed as last yr, not getting a response out of the boost controler and eventually throwing a rod out the front .
low power was explained when we started tearing it down to find the fan had lost one of its aluminium blades and cut the only bit of silicone hose nearby on the up pipe from turbo to intercooler ,
Kim and Jim ran the turbo 600 which is mostly parts upgraded on the 750 , We were still tuning for altitude with it and only got it going better by the last day , it eventually ran 296mph and burnt a piston , 200 on the 600 will have to wait
3 bikes to fix before WOS and 3 days traveling gave us 3 days to fix them, 750 and 600 were easy with spare pistons and cyls back at Jims workship
Busa destroyed everything and needed a complete motor , so collected parts on our way back and rang in a few favors
Eventually deciding we could not build an "A" motor in the time frame put a good "B"motor together , full built motor needed time to fit big studs in the cases and get piston coatings done , B had small studs (10mm) hi comp pistons with spacer plate , but still good sound gearbox with our overdrive gears fitted and some oil mods done
All done we made it back and found out cheap quick repairs gave cheap quick results,
750 had boost controller setting problems and we hurt it again
Busa lost compression on a blinder of a run, 245 in the second mile and accelerating well till it nosed over and i rolled off for a 235 3 mile
and 600 decided the ex track bike bottom end did not like boost and made a pretzel out of one of the rods with very little other damage

We hung around for the Cook Shootout , like most of the meets this season the track favored the heavy vehicles ,
Viewed from the 5 mile , Danny Thompsons run was spectacular right up to the point where he lost a tire , would have been most disappointing for them to retire from the damage it did to the body and not complete there aim of 400mph .
Venturi guys were very methodical setting up there new power delivery system , and it paid off with 358 top speed and 341 record pending ratification
Triumph with Guy Martin riding had endless challenges and eventually retired after having trouble with track conditions and falling over on the air intake side , not getting any where near the earlier August speeds
Japanese Honda car team were great to watch , , nothing was too difficult, from tech when any little issue was fixed immediately with no discusion to adjusting to conditions and bumping there speed every run and getting 261 mph out of there blown 660cc economy car motor
Another liner the Truz Missile went well with a few little problems , again sorting them and getting a top speed of 262mph out of there zx10 powered car
only a few of bikes and a snowmobile to complete the list
Only bike i think to really get her target was Erin Okonek getting a red hat with a 217mph FIM record and bumping her speeds to a best of 224mph one way pass but a damp 3rd mile leading to the timing from the highway side made it hard to get a good 2 way average
Jamie Williams set a record on the snowmobile, but was having traction problems
Al Lamb also set a record , but well short of the 260+ he is capable of in good conditions
Erin Sills and Mike Garcia made some fast runs but short of the records they were chasing

Greg, with the events so close together, and home (here and SanFran) so far away, thinking that maybe youse should have a complete spare motor(Busa) stashed in the trailer

Did Al set a record Greg, or is that a typo ??
