Record Updates
Since we have taken on the SCTA rule book this would be a good time to get our records up to date.
I can only speak about the motorcycle records.
I am entered for a record---APS/BG 1000. This record should NOT be in the book. the bike was not ridden.
2 records by John Pudney-M/PS 1000 @ 166 & M/PSG 1000 @164 both set in 2001. These classes do not make sence.
Should they be MPS/G 1000? If so then the record is 177
The 900cc records should be taken out of the book.
There has never been a 900cc class.
Also in 1000 records-
P/P 1000 @180
P/PG1000 @ 181 these must be the same class. Production frame, Production engine must use gas so no separate class
I hope I haven't upset anyone but I think this is a good time to get it in order
cheers Bones

Re: Record Updates
Thanks Bones. Amending old records is a difficult thing as you don't want to stomp on any bodies toes.
I think the best thing to do is let this post sit for a month and then if I don't get any further feed back the changes will be made.
The 900cc records are a hard one as well, because those bikes were accepted and ran in that class at that time.
We can't re-write history, but I can correct it as best I can.
The first few years of bike classes is a bit of a shambles, but there's not much I can do about it unless somebody identifies a particular and specific anomaly.

Re: Record Updates
I'll say the 900 records are a hard one
I pointed out to the guy running in that 900 class that his bike was 904cc standard and that there was in fact no 900 class
and he told me sod off, or words to that affect

They make it
I make it work

Re: Record Updates
well we can tell him to sod off and read the rule book.
And I rekon we should do something about the MV Augusta in pushrod

Re: Record Updates
Hooray at last!
I have been wondering when someone was going to pickup the fact that some of the motorcycle records in PG ( Pushrod Engine: Gasoline class) have been set buy bikes with DOHC engines. For example P/PG1000 set on a GSXR1000 Suzuki and P/PG1350 on a GSX1300R Hayabusa.
Also why aren't record runs backed up? Bit sick of seeing records set and no other runs within 25MPH. Jim

Re: Record Updates
There is no credability to any records without accuracy, if something is wrong fix it don't leave it broken
Re: Record Updates
I don"t think people have been trying to enter OHC engines in pushrod classes-except for the MV buisness.
P/PG is a missunderstanding .Production frame/Production engine must be gas- there is no separate class for fuel.
P/PP is-- production frame/ production engine.pushrod
I think the original idea of no backup run was to simplify things, No impound, No sealing No measuring.-- every one should be doing the right thing
reguarding engine capacity and aero class.
At the moment I don't think the measuring equipment is available to measure an engine without removing the head.

Re: Record Updates
I'll be running in the M/VG 650 class this year, it would be nice to have that sorted beforehand as well please As I don't see how a 72 Yamaha can be in vintage (pre 56) class??
Cheers Mossy
PS you could, I suppose, run an 885 Triumph in the 900 class

Re: Record Updates
Does anyone have pics of the bore measuring tools that are used with head still on?
The stroke is pretty easy to visualise with a centralised plug but the bore I can't get.
Thanks

Re: Record Updates
The bore gauge only works with a central spark plug
855 in the 900 class would be ok-- but thereis NO 900 class
cheers Bones

Re: Record Updates
If you know the stroke, which can be measured easily, and you know the max oversize allowed you can work out the displacement. Then tilt the bike (could be difficult with cars) til the plug hole is at the highest point. Fill the combustion chamber with oil at TDC to the bottom of the plug hole. Then turn the motor to BDC and try pouring in the same volume of oil as the max capacity. If it doesn't reach the bottom of the plug hole you have an oversize motor. If it overflows you know the motor is under the max capacity. Don't know how accurate this would be but should be reasonably close, though may be a bit messy getting the oil out again.

Re: Record Updates
Filling with oil doesn't allow for TDC combustion chamber volume.
There is a pump check tool as well that you disable the valves closed & crank the motor over with measuring tool screwed into spark plug.
Cheers

I totally agree.Greg Watters wrote:There is no credability to any records without accuracy, if something is wrong fix it don't leave it broken
There is no point keeping records if they are known to be inaccurate.
