There should be museums for all the things that didn't work well enough but didn't deserve to be chopped up either. You learn a helluva lot more looking at bad designs than you do looking at the stuff that makes production.

Cheers

In the 70's an F1-11 crashed into Auckland Habour, the pilot and his crewman ejected safely from the plane and were picked up by a fishing boat. The F1-11 has an ejection pod which both crew get sent out in. It even has a bulge pump built into it to pump water out if the pod ends up in the sea so it acts like a boat. The two crew were picked up by Helicoptor and Flown to the West Auckland airbase ,unhurt and didn't even get their feet wet. . My Flat mate was working there as an Airframe fitter at the time . i also used to know someone that was buyer for the RAAF and their job was to source parts from all over the world that were poked away in Hangers . These NOS parts were vital n keeping the plane air worthy,oz being the last place in the World to keep them flying ...now back to topic...
Cook St? whereabouts did you work there? I worked on the otherside of town in Parnell for a while doing Diesel injection gear . A very long time ago though.

Rear bulk head x shatter shield (top half)
Became a bigger job than it needed to be ,
rear engine exaust system was never quite correct, it sat about 15 mm lower at the exit (thought I'd get away with it....)
Needed the 15 mm to get the air box on and off without stripping the complete exaust system out of the way first. and if it wasn't fixed now the problem was going to compound down the line.
Bit more of a tidy up and repaint, extend the tail pipe about 100mm.

Zalt
City council workshops , apparently there was an old lady in the radiator shop that new a lot of the "Wizard Smith" story and there was memrobillia and pictures hanging on the wall ,(never ventured in there) this was 1978 so I would think that avenue of information might be closed. (will go back to the "Wizard" thread shortly as I've found some more information. )

Is that ballistic alloy you have used for the bulk head?
I remember the ACC workshops now. I left Auckland in 1977. ( South Auckland actually I flatted with some guys from Papakura rod club at Drury) .

It's ballistic all right.......
3mm stainless steel.....
It's not typical for a motorcycle engine to throw a clutch out of its cases . they are usually driven somewhere around two thirds engine speed and the method of basket containment is pretty sound ( destroyed a few in my time and so far the worst has been a crack in the cases when the basket lost a couple of fingers.)
The old Two valve Z900 kawasaki came out standard with a steel basket as to the aluminium one of the ZZR. Kawasaki have kept the mounting patern the same for thirty odd years and its quite a simple job to fit the steel basket to the ZZR .
The shatter shield is being built above the rule book standards, but because of the clutch and chains proximatey to the fuel tank ,for my own peace of mind.

Actually Grumm
It wasn't long after that interview that she actually did get named........
I call her "Trinity".
The name Trinity is most likely taken in the racing scene somewhere .but it will all ways be her house name.....

Due to the fact that the streamliner needs more thousands of dollars than I've got fingers and toes , It will have to wait till next year... All Good....

Plan B
1983 GPzx 1100 Kawasaki bored to 1175 13.5 : 1 comp ratio, running methanol
Rear end with some minor modifications is from a zx12r Kawasaki
The unitrack suspension from both models is very similar ,and using bits from both models the suspension virtually bolts straight in wilst also lowering the bike to an excellent height. (not shown in picture ,but will show later)

Font end is from the same zx12r donor...which was an ex track bike that went skidin down the road...I got it less motor, some other speed freak wanted that.
Stayt`ie ,, haven't forgot ya for the parts that are left :D
The steering head bearings needed to be changed and a little bearing adaptor made for the now twin lower bearings. other than that, fits like it belongs there
Ignition system is Dyna S , Advance system is removed and will be locked at 36 degrees for starters and to be shifted out to 40 degrees assuming everything goes properly.
Seat height has come up at 26 inches :D real happy with that as the tire height is 25inches.
Back to it...
